Surprise Christmas visit from the Christmas Rabbit

Post by frankieD » Fri Dec 17, 2010 6:17 pm

I was pleasantly surprised to hear from our resident Rabbit.

Gary called & said he was in Socal & could we meet for a "late dinner".

What a class act Gary is !

He drove at least 2 hours to get to my house.

We had a nice visit & listened to Music, checked out my gear and....he bought dinner for my wife & I.

A genuine Class Act !

Gary, my wife was upset with me..she said I should have bought dinner....and I think she is right.

I will make it up to you at the next fest...so you better be sure to show up!

It was great to see you & listen to music.

Yea, that might ring true for "HARVEY" - but -->

Real rabbits just eat salad and only drink Gin.

How does that compare with your visitor?

Check your ears for "earwigs'.

I hate to think TN infected another family before me and my group caught up with the guy(?)

Don't ever trust a Rabbit, especially if he just came out of a Hat.

Gary called & said he was in Socal & could we meet for a "late dinner".
Why a late dinner? Maybe Rabbit figured a late dinner you would be drunk by then and easy to take advantage of.

He drove 2 hours just to see you, something is not adding up

No wonder Rabbit can never find the "hole", Dinner comes first! before he checks out your GEAR!

Hey, he wanted to drive 2 hours to be in your presence, he should Pay!

I started writing this last Friday, so I'm going to just post it in it's entirety:

I'm sitting here ar John Wayne Airport waiting on my flight back to MD as I write this~

I had the pleasure of visiting two long-time forum members this week while on a business trip to California (Orange County); FrankieD & elgrau.

I made it up to Frankie's place on Wed evening after more than a 2 hour drive from Brea (traffic was terrible). He & his lovely wife, Marilyn, took me out to dinner at a fine local Italian restaurant (don't recall the name), then went back to listen to some tunes on his systems.

The Amazing Silvers were up first, and sounded GREAT. Imaging is very good, but I can definitely tell a difference between these & my AL-IIIs-- despite having the same ribbon. Probably that I am actively biamping now, but it could also be the length of cabling required to run from Frank's amp in the den all the way to the other corner of his house where the Silver's reside (150 ft?). Frank asked what I thought & I told him I thought his weakest points for the Silvers were the room size & furniture. The sweet spot get's good imaging despite this & the bass is solid. Now that I've had a chance to think about what I heard, I'd say the crossovers could probably do with a rebuild as I thought I detected a lack of clarity that sometimes accompanies older crossovers.

Moving on to his surround system. Frank uses Sunfire CRM-2 speakers for mains & they sound wonderful, complemented by not ONE, not TWO, but THREE subwoofers! He played some 5.1 Dolby & DTS test videos & they sounded great. I'm really impressed with the sub combo--they all blend together seamlessly.

I've had the luxury to meet several members while traveling on business around the country as well as hosting a few get togethers myself. It's always a pleasure to put names to faces or see old friends again. Thank you to Frankie, Marilyn, Ed & Sue for taking time out of their schedules to meet with me!
