May 4 BBQ Ribs & music

Post by tinpan » Wed Apr 24, 2013 5:42 am

Looks like I'll be having a little get together May 4th beginning at noon if any one is in the DC area. It looks like we'll be hanging out in the garage listening to a Carver Baby Black Beauty tube amp.

Nice LandCruiser! I miss my '74.

The only two you guys might know (besides me) is tinpan (orange sweater) & Dom, AKA: zumbini on the left. All the rest are friends of Robin's who I'd never met before.

In this pic, it's Patrick on the right & Robin on the left:

This is Robin & Roscoe. Robin says Roscoe has forgotten more about audio than all the rest of us combined. He's also pretty darned smart about off-roading/Jeeps.

The couple on the left here are Ed & Alyssa (sp?):

Finally getting a chance to catch up. I didn't get a chance to take many pics so I am glad Gary did, awesome pics and video.

Image
Here's Eddie and his wife Elise and Gary. Eddie is one of my car buddies who also is into vintage audio stuff. Currently he's brushing up his skills on restoring vintage tube amps and consoles. He restored my father's Elac turntable and Akai RTR.
Nana is slinking around with his tennis ball. He was very bad and had everyone throwing it for him.

Image
Here's Zubini (Dom) from the other forum, Gary, Patrick ( one of my SET buddies) and Roscoe. Roscoe is one of the DC DIY club members. He's the one that sold me the horns and the cabinets. HE is very knowledgeable, probably has forgotten more than Patrick, Matt & Pete and I know about music. Being a DIY'r they march to the beat of a different drummer. While I like a production amp with all the support, Roscoe and his DIY gang like to see if they can better the sound with $12.47 worth of parts. I would like to see what kind of crossover he could make though.

Image
Another shot of everyone having fun. It was kind of nice because I didn't have to line up tunes. Everyone pretty much grabbed their favorite CD or tune from the Sonos and played away. The Louis Armstrong song Gary captured in the first video is an amazing unreleased recording from Live at ST James Infirmary.

Image
Patrick eyeing a pair of unused Oris horns

Image
Another very cool aspect of the garage is I can blend car folks and audio folks, or in this case both. Roscoe was showing some of the mods he made to his Jeep. Anytime there is a hood open and free food, my dad can be found not far away. Here he is heading over to Roscoe and Gary

Image
Here's Gary and the ever vigilant tennis ball retriever, Nana. He is so bad when you reach for a tool, you have to move the ball to get to it, thus, free game of chase the tennis ball. Here he snuck up behind Gary and rolled the tennis ball through his legs so Gary could see it and throw it.

The 52 Packard is a recent addition. I sold a 55 Packard and I have the Orange and White 55 Packard and the 77 Landcruiser on ebay right now. With so many good cars for sale right now it makes more sense to buy one already done so the 52 was a nice upgrade and I have my eye on a 48 that I can replace the other 55 with. The Land cruiser is pretty much restored but I don't drive it so I'd rather sell it and use that money for something else.

I'm pretty much done with audio projects for now so it's fun to be able to kick back in the garage. We were so busy in the garage we didn't have time to really listen to the tunes in the house. The garage system featured the #2 Baby Black Beauty EL 84 tube amp. I had a Grant Fidelity DAC and a Carver CT-5 for a pre amp and an OPPO DVD player for CD's.

I was worried about making too many ribs, but there weren't too many left so I guess I had the right amount.

Till next time
