What to do

Post by bikerdude523 » Thu Apr 26, 2007 6:08 pm

I won this auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0104404113

And I have not been able to get the seller to respond to my messages since the end of the auction. I do not feel comfortable sending the money with out a response from him! It seems that he sold this preamp a week earlier, but I received a logical explanation for that. At the end of the auction I ask him if he would write his user name on a piece of paper, place it on the preamp and take a picture of it and send it to me (mikeg's idea). I explained that I was not trying to insult his integrity I just needed a little piece of mind, and I was very polite about it.
I don't think this was unreasonable. But anyway what looked like a good deal might have been a stick in the butt. I hope not!!

Its only been two days from end of auction. Has he contacted you at all after the auction ended ? I would say its fair to give you a picture of his ID with the amp. I would also think that a Phone # would be a good idea. That way if you called him you could look up the # to at least see where it came from. Keep us posted.

The only contact after the auction, was the generic invoice. No response after 3 messages. I am probably worrying for nothing, but danm 716.00 shipped. Ready to get this deal done!!

How many days has it been? The normal procedure is to give them 7 days to respond....I'd wait until he responds to send the money, though.

It's only been 2 days, but I think the problem has been solved. It seems that my hotmail and his yahoo don't work well together, I have had this problem before. He can't send a picture through ebay messenger service

Wahoo, at least I have a tracking number now and I have talked to the seller on the phone a couple of times.
All seems to be cool, I guess I will know for sure when it gets here.
Does any one know what year they first started making the Sunfire Classic pre?

This is all I know about them and they have a manual in PDF format you can print off, too: http://www.sunfire.com/ClassicVacuumTubePreAmp.htm

Just a FYI, I don't contact any of my buyers for 24 hours, unless I see instant payment...
You can't fix stupid.

And that's cool, but I thought the auction had a couple of red flags and I took a cautious chance anyway, and placed a bid #-o . When I ask for the pic of the preamp with his user id, all replies stopped for three days and that made me a little goosey :-s . I know I should have ask that question before the end of the auction ](*,) , but I didn't think I would win the danm thing. I did not feel comfortable sending the money with out a reply [-( . I have talked to him three times on the phone now, and he seems to be a good guy. It should be here Monday. I can't wait to fire up those tubes! \:D/

Thanks TNRabbit, I have been checking it out on the Sunfire site for a why'll now. Can't ever do to much research.

Hey, congrats on the purchase, didn't see this thread until now. I still owe you a review of the phono CD, hopefully later tonight I'll get a chance to test it out.

Thanks Mike, no big hurry on that review. Sunfire is now saying that they don't do optional upgrades on discontinued products. What the he!!, they must have the parts for repair work, the thing has only been out of production this year, and they have a five year warranty. I may see if Rita can do it later.
Did all the Classic preamps have the signature faceplate? I noticed that the one pictured on the Sunfire site did not.

No, I have one Classic preamp without the signature, this is also the unit that has the factory installed remote control option, also it's one of the later models.

I'm shocked also in the service from Sunfire on a product that has only been out of production I think for two years, like you said they should have the parts. I remember calling them a little while ago asking if I could get the remote kit installed in my other unit and they indicated that they no longer have the parts :o so anybody out there with the remote option, don't lose the remote control :)

Well, all seems to be great. I got the preamp today, \:D/ and it looks and sounds like a new unit. It came with original box, packing, manual and glass plate. This thing sounds fantastic!!!! Now I can try playing with the tubes, going to try a matched set of (6922 Russian MP SLNM CRYO E88CC/6H23CRYO). Be interesting to see how much difference the tubes make. I hope it warms up the highs a touch. With all controls set flat it seems to be a bit bright but not to much. This is probably because of the 6DJ8 tubes that are in it. I have played with these tubes before in my CD player and they were a bit bright, but a pair of well burned in 6h23n-EB's toned it down nicely.
