Adding crossover to Realistic Minimus 77s

Post by TNRabbit » Sun May 01, 2011 9:47 am

I bought the crossover & woofer upgrade kit from eBay for my Realistic Minimus 77s as I blew the woofers out listening to the 1812 Overture in 5.1 last month~ #-o

Anywho, I need some advice on installing the caps as the instructions are not terribly clear. Is anyone available to call me this morning (Sunday)? thnx

Got it worked out; there were EXTRA caps in the package that had nothing to do with what I purchased~

They sound really good, if maybe a little less efficient. The upgraded used a higher capacity woofer w/custom crossover & changed out the tweeter crossover with a higher quality capacitor. They handle more power now...that's for sure. I think my TG-IV is not cutting the bass to the center channel from the internal bass management like it does with the surrounds (supposed to do both equally). Put too much to the little Minimus 77s when the cannons hit on the 1812 Overture~ #-o

Here's some pics:

Original woofer

Cut the outside from the old woofers with a Dremel tool to use on the replacements (round) instead of the crappy plexiglass cutouts included in the package:

Here, the new woofer xover is on top; the old tweeter xover on the bottom. I replaced that black cap on the lower with a larger yellow cap.

Glad you worked it out Gary. Those new woofs look nice.

Well, they DEFINITELY get louder without distorting now. I A/B compared with another pair I have (with newer/different woofers but original) & they keep their composure at much higher levels now. When the others are clearly distorting, these sound wonderful (for what they are). Hell, I may collect a dozen pair & try them stacked in a line array fashion~

I recommend the seller & the upgrade, even if it is a little pricey ($75 shipped) for the Minimus 77. You can find the seller on eBay as "litekeys"

Way back when, I think I had a pair of the 7's not the 77's.
As I recall, traded them to a friend for some small, very heavy, tiny speakers from Radio Shack.
They are in the crawl space I suspect.
I will crawl in there tomorrow and see.
Yours for free if you want them.
My recollection is that they are very good but needed additional bass as most small speakers do.

SOLD! I have 5 pair of 7s right now & 2 pair of 77s (which I prefer). They are an EXCELLENT surround/center speaker when ganged together (for power handling increase). THANKS!

PM me with shippping cost~

Talked via email with the seller this morning about an extra set of caps that were in the package; turns out he included his original upgraded 4.7k cap with a pair of higher quality polypropylene caps. Unfortunately, I installed the lesser quality mylar film cap~ DOH! #-o

Guess I'll be opening them up again......

Can't imagine them sounding much better than they do already! \:D/

..an honest mistake; he didn't realize he had put both pair in the package....

Screw it; I'm not opening the back up at this point. If I do in the future, I'll just replace them then. Hell, I may just put them on my other pair of Minimus 77s~
