Just Bought 490t CD Player- Help!

Do you have output cables attached to your pre-amp? Just kidding

Check the set of RCA's you have the preamp connected to...
One set is VARIABLE, and if the volume knob on the front is all the way down, you will get no output !!!
Check BOTH sets or RCA outputs.

Also !!! I wouldn't send a 390t or 490t to ANYONE but Rolland in Oregon !!!!!!
He is the ONLY person that has replacement parts for that CD Player.

Thanks for the tip, I called him and now have to decide if it is worth the $219 fee to get her up and running and back. I assume these are worth at least a bit more than than in working order?

Yes, both tubes are in it and both are glowing so I assume they are working.

They can glow all day long and still be bad.

If you have the top of the unit off, does the cd spin when the play button is engaged? If so, have you cleaned the lense? Try a q-tip with alcohol to remove the dust. Just a thought........

Yeah...it spins and I cleaned the lens already but no go. Shows it is playing (clock is running on the tracks and such) but no sound. I think I will order a new set of 6DJ8 tubes before sending it in for repair as that is the last thing I think I can do to it that might have a bearing.

No output from speakers or headphone output (with volume control maxxed out).

That is not a good sign.

My belt is having problems and it just started the other day and I admit I don't use it much these days but it is nice to have ready to play.

Poly products of the past sure were worthless.....maybe solder paper clips together

both of the tubes in my 490t are amprex if i remember right.

Before you spend money getting the unit repaired there are two more things I would try. These things to try are both assuming that you verified the 490 is reading the disc by pushing play and watching the display to see if the time clock is moving, the timer will only work if the disc is being read. Now try hooking your interconnects up using the outputs labeled "fixed" to see if you get anything or not. (be sure to use inputs on your pre amp you verified as working)
Lastly try hooking the player up using the "digital optical" output because this completely by-passes the tube section of the player. If you still get no sound then send it to Rita, Vintage Hi Fi, or Roland. Even if you have to spend some coin on the thing you definitely won't regret it.
