Sunfire Tube pre dilemma

I snagged a non remote capable Sunfire Tube pre just for the phono board. Placed the board in my remote capable tube pre and I get nothing. put it back in the non remote unit and it works great. The only difference between the two are different revisions of the main board. Any thoughts on this one?

Live without the remote and give me the one with the remote!

After you get your dilema sorted... I am interested in the other. DIBS!!!

It now makes me leary to try to find a phono board for mine. May have to consider selling and just buying another unit. I REALLY don't want that option!!!

Did you take any pics? Forget to hook a lead up?

Wasn't this sold aftermarket as an add-on. It doesn't make much sense that it doesn't work if your unit has the connectors for it.

Phono boards were available as an option. Have no clue why it won't work.

Take a look at the power supply board on the pre that the phono works in.

As you look at the PS board, from the right side of the preamp, at the back edge of the board you should see a jumper over two pins.

Look at your remote pre in the same place. You will probably see two pins with no jumper.

Pull the jumper, along with the phonoboard and the shorter cable and put them all into your remote pre.

That is what I did and it all worked perfectly.

What is confusing is that the tubes light up (filament supply) even without the jumper that brings high voltage to the phonoboard. So, one would think everything is fine, when in fact the tubes have no high voltage supply.

I am sure the original user installed phono kit came with instructions.

Doing it the way you and I did, we have to figure it out on our own.
