Questions about Soldering

Post by sea » Wed Oct 01, 2014 8:14 am

I have several questions concerning soldering equipment and solder.

What type solder (make-up and diameter) do you use for PCB work?

What sort of desoldering? Desolder braid, Solder sucker, or desoldering iron with suction?

What brand and type solder station are you using?

I appreciate the input.

Mark, Harry, Mike, TomZ and Greg amongst others have mad soldering skills. I hope one of them will be around to give you some pointers. Several of them do repairs for a living.

Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

No. I did my crossovers over the weekend and the solder I used did not do well. I do not have a lot of experience and am trying to gather the proper tools and materials to practice on some old pcb's. I am trying to get up the nerve to attempt a BillD a mod on an old C1 that I have.

The crossovers have about 40 or so hours and are starting to sound less hazy.

+1 on Cardas Quad Eutectic George. That's the only solder I use.

Weller WES51 station
Cardas solder
ZD-108 desoldering pump, not the little bulb type.....worthless. Never found the braid worth the bother.
