Thought you guys might like to know that I fixed 3 Lightstar amps and they are at Carverfest now.
We are good friends with the Bob you know.
I fixed some amps that Bob couldn't fix.

I fix most audio equipment and I'm an audiophile as well.
I own tube equipment and electrostatic speakers.

While I can't sign your equipment with Bob's name I can certainly fix it.

Hey! Having not one but TWO solid options is a great thing!

Well I guess this finally sort of explains things.

A couple weeks ago I just plain gave up on that place.

The last couple years I have emailed them going through that repair website and all I got was one reply saying they would get back to me.

I had explained the entire history and all the things I wanted to have repaired by Rita and I have several things that need repair and these are Carver gear bought right there in Lynwood back when he was there building the ALS and when I got the many other things before and after that.

I was one of his original customers when the Carver Corp. started and I am about 5 feet away from my Phase Linear 4000

Hell if they couldn't just reply to me so I could start sending stuff over there or driving it over since I am only about 90 minutes away there is no way they were going to stay in business.

I had plenty of cash to trade them.

After me wasting time the last couple years with that I decided to just give up.........all I have that still works are the Carver amps and the preamp and the FM tuner which I played today while I was working outside.

And it wasn't going through any Carver speakers.........hell if all I have is FM I might as well park one of my cars next to me while I do yard work here.

CD player can just sit there along with the rest of the repairs needed.

I bought a fucking car instead with the money I was going to hand over to them.

You'd be surprised (maybe) at how little time really busy people have to deal with email. I get so many and when I'm so busy I literally don't even take the time to even read the TITLE of many before deleting them (let alone opening it up to actually read it or RESPOND to it!). If you had amps that needed work, MP, you should have just hauled them over there (with perhaps the email "instructions" taped to each as to what needed fixing). I'm sure they would have found the time to accept them from you...in person or "on the phone" works MUCH better than being one of 100's of emails that most businesses receive each day... Just my $.02! - Ed

Just the basic problems when these things get old I guess

The Phase Linear 4000 started having minor problems way back when I replaced it with the Carver C-19 when it first came out and it just needs a updating but still works but the switches are all a pain in the ear.

The FM tuner works fine except those freq switches always have been a problem since they stick and it runs by the channel you want most of the time.

The Carver SD/A-490t CD player worked until I joined here and read members talk about those rubber bands being worn out......soon after my tray stopped opening and then it stopped playing too.

The ALS's died years ago after I lost the last set of X-overs and the Lynwood Carver place was no longer there so I just set them aside.........in fact haven't removed the covers to see how the woofers look after sitting for about 15 years.

The main thing was I wanted the CD player to work and the C-19 to be gone through.........and if Rita would have done that I was going to send the Phase Linear over just so I could have it back to normal since it still looks new.


Of course I figure the 1.0t will die on me next but I still have the rebuilt Cube in the original box that I got when it first was sold in Seattle (Rita repaired it back in 1995)

If you don't plug thag cube in once in a while, the caps will dry out & it won't work or will be greatly degraded when you go to use it. Probably already has if it's been sitting for 15 years. The shelf life on unused caps is not that long.
