I changed the gain on my c-1 down 12db as per a Carver bulletin that came out several years ago. This change allows the user to keep the rotation of the volume control away from it's noise floor of approximately 8- 9:00. At the same time, your amp won't be maxing out at 12:00 on the dial. There were several db changes on the bulletin. Just choose the one that best fit your needs. I can't help as far as the hiss goes. I'll be more than happy to send you a copy of the bulletin if you wish.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my C1. I changed the gain as suggested in the carver manuel and the hiss was gone after that, I also had a better volume control, was able to put it at "12:00"...
