Welcome to the forum. Not sure what the E stands for but I am sure if you let us know what model player you have someone might have a service manual they can look at.

"E" is for error. Your problem could be a bad belt for the tray opening drive or perhaps a CD has gotten jammed up inside the player preventing it from opening. When you try to open it, what noise(s) do you hear? Will it play any of the discs inside the player?
