Fire update: Yesterday we had a relatively calm day. The winds had stopped.

It gave the firefighters a chance to deal with the fires. Unfortunatly they were not able to put them out.

They were, however able to diminish and contain a lot of them. Today is a little windy and at least the Ventura fire has flared up.

The good news is it is not in a populated area any more.

To give you some perspective the west end of what was one fire is now 35 miles from the east end of that fire.

Hoping to get them all out by Christmas.

Thanks to all my Carverfest friends for your prayers and concern.

I'll keep you updated.

Glad to hear all is well. I have lots of people out there affected and it is just horrible. Keep us posted. Hugs to both you and Marilyn

Well you've heard the expression "when it rains it pours"...change it to:

"when it burns it pours" and that's worse.

We had a stormy/rainy night and those places where the fire burned are now a source of moving mudd!!

18 people dead (so far). What a terrible situation.

Many of the fire victems were just beginning to clear up the remains of their home when the rain hit.

We are safe from any of that but Santa Barbara was hit really hard.

Steve Hersch was out here awhile ago in Carpenteria...that town was hit very hard...the freeway is closed.

I don't know if your TV news is showing this but the mudd moved boulders the size of a Buick. Really bad.

I'll let you know more as it happens.

Frank.

Saw that on the National news this morning Frankie regarding the mud slides and resultant death toll. Both shocking and tragic. Never even thought of the mud slide scenario after the fires. After all of the news of the fires, was thinking how could the situation get any worse. Then wake up to the deaths and devastation from the mud slides.

Today is a beautiful day...sunny and 70'. The mudd is still being removed.

The 101 freeway is still closed between Ventura and Santa Barbara.

Things look good weatherwise for at least the next 10 days.

No rain expected until then...but it will come and be a problem.

Latest update on tonights news: 17 dead, 4 in critical condition, 17 missing.

Boulders the size of a car came down with the mud & destroyed homes.

Oprah's house was hit, the house OK but her property covered in Mid.

Montecito is the "ritzy" section of Santa Barbara. Those homes are double diget millions.

Update: The 101 freeway was to be opened Monday...tonight they changed that to "indefinitely"

One bit of info was that at one point almost 1" of rain fell in 10 minutes.

The cleanup continues.

I feel a little guilty because we live just a few miles from the slides but no damage to us.

Make that guilty and glad at the same time.

Frank
