Eric, I would vote for you for OCCD master of the month, but I was just thinking with the addition of 3 Carverfest amps, 2 M400's, a Phase Linear DRS 900 and 1000 noise unit and 3600 pre amp, Carver 3220 cd player, new Carveraudio XLR's, and a Sunfire wireless woofer set up I may be able to retain the title! All while selling 2 PT 2400's and a CT 24.
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

HaaHaa Im still a lightweight, just trying to catch up with the big boys...lol

BTW Wayne, that PT-2400 is a BEAST, its a great match for the 12W7's. I cant believe some of the bass notes coming out of these things! I would swear Tommy Lee is in my house on the kick drum...lol

Toy Maker Im probably going to get another set. I have been looking at the RE Audio XXX18" subs but would hate to spend the money only to find out they wont perform with the JL's. My other option is to get the JL13W7's. Pretty sure I cant go wrong with them. Have you heard anything about the RE Audio stuff. Their 18" sub looks very impressive.

1st off, I know nothing about the xxx... sorry.
But I do know allot about the JL's, I have a 12" Fathom in my living room.
Ask anyone on the forum that has heard it, just how smooth it is....

Here's my suggestion...

If you are seriously thinking about spending between $3000-$5000 for your home subs, then don't half-ass it with raw drivers, and a custom car enclosure.
If you really want to get the best of the best, start scouring the web for the best price on a new or used JL Gotham g213.

No matter what car audio sub you buy or build, you will still have the same problems when it comes to tuning them to the room.
Unless you go out and get an outboard sub auto EQ system, the subs will never be tuned correctly to your room.
If $$ were no issue, I'd just go all out and buy 2 g213 Gothams 8) (see the below video)

The dual 13.5" Gotham is one of the worlds best TH subs @ $12,000 MSRP
Just do a little research. http://www.jlaudio.com/category/85025.1 ... Subwoofers

SMS-1 works great in my HT room, otherwise the JL Fathom or the Velo subs with room correction are the way to go.

simply put, above rings true, jl is a sq driver that plays loud while the other's are more on the spl side of life with little regard to details in the music.......just how loud do you want it to be and sound accurate at the same time. always a give and take situation. i use three treo 15" 500 watt car woofers at 8 ohms each in 2.5cf sealed enclosures each with the velodyne sms-1 through one channel of the sunfire 400-7. the house rattles, my seat moves, the woofers are barely moving.......one day i will throw a 2000 watt amp at them, but it is overkill now to say the least.

Yea Im gonna say this is basically what Im looking for...lol

The Gotham is a little out of my range, at least all at once. Besides, I kinda like the building process. First the sub, then the sleepless nights waiting for the enclosures to be built, then staying up till 2am putting it all together, then playing that first song.

Its sorta like building a new race motor thinking about how well its gonna run, then it performs better than you expected.

Im now thinking about running one 2400 on each 18"RE, just gotta find another 2400 or a 75...hint,hint Wayne :-" :-" :-" :D :D

Here is a couple pics of the XXX18D2. Its a 2ohm dual voice coil sub so I think I could run both channels of a 2400 or 75 to each sub which would be somewhere around 3000watts per sub. This should satisfy my need at least for a while since Im getting 1350wpc to each of the 12W7's and they are brutal yet smooth as silk at the same time
