Howdy all

One of these days I'd like to get my paws on some AL III's. They are one of the very few speakers that impressed me back when I could hear a butterfly fart at 50 yards.

I think someone just posted some yesterday or Friday under the for sale from Newbs section....

Just a few miles from were you live though. I have heard of people driving very far to pick up pairs of AL's.

If they were oak and I had the time and money, I'd be happy to take the roadtrip to get them. I've driven from coast to coast from Oregon to Florida before and its a cool trip. Getting the speakers would just be icing on the cake.

Uncle, welcome to the machine !! The black ALIIIs are oak that are painted black. For an accomplished woodworker such as yourself it'd be a small matter to strip those ALs and finish however you want. I noticed that you're doing some serious "hogging" with your router in your project, as one who has learned the hard way, I encourage you to wear hearing protectors always when using loud machinery. I've got tinnitus now because I didn't !

Alas, just like the cook in The Cowboys "I have the money and inclination, but unfortunately do not have the time" to make the trip to get the Florida ALIII's. The only reason I hadn't persued ALIII's earlier is that I was unaware that the ribbons could be repaired. Now I know otherwise.

Also, I always wear hearing protection when using saws and routers. Two sets, in fact - the expandible foam jobbies in my ears with external ear muff style protectors.
