Greetings from Upstate NY

My journey here started with speaker building. I am just about done building these:

I was concerned about powering them with a wimpy receiver so I started looking for a more stout prime mover for the system. Bob Carver seems like a real maverick and I had been intrigued with his stuff in the past but I considered it out of my price range. This week I picked up my first unit, a little CT-6 preamp from the original owner in Buffalo. Nice retired lady that purchased it in new in 92. Now I got the bug. I'm looking for an amp or two. Next speaker project I'm thinking might be a bi-amped system.

BTW, I've been looking for a copy of the manual but no luck yet.

The neat thing about forums like this is that it brings people together that have such diverse backgrounds.

Welcome to the forum! cool project on the speaker build and congratulations on the pre-amp! One thing I noticed in the spec's is, This is a solid 4 ohm nominal design. When you are looking for an amp, research if the amp is stable under 4 ohm. Most Carver amp's will do fine running down to 2 ohm. There are a lot of Carver amp's out there that could get confusing at times, just try to remember your speakers will dip under 4 ohm. This is interesting; I printed this list going off the release date and what amp's would of been used with this pre-amp at the time.

Carver C-6 released 1989

Carver M-0.5t released 1988, 140w x 2
Carver M-1.0t released 1986, 200w x 2
Carver M-4.0t released 1989, 375w x 2, class AB
Carver M-500t released 1981, 250w x 2, with meters

Take a look at the M-1.0t (Awesome amp) to pair up with your C-6. Others will have their own opinions and of course there are newer amp's to use also.

I was scanned quickly over your page & it looks like the speaker drops off relatively quickly below 100 hz; are you planning a subwoofer?

I think you missed the T on his pre amp. He listed it as a CT-6. That would put him the the TFM timeframe. Not a big deal. I have not heard a Carver amp I have not liked so if you want to match any of the TFM's would work but all the amps Jag listed would work great also. They would just look different from the early 1990s and later equipment.

You might not be far from icravcarver. He lives in your area. I got to meet him a few months ago. Beemers417, icravcarver and I got to hang out and have a few beers and listen to some tunes while he was in PGH on a buisness trip.

Thanks for catching that Thuffman! I must be off in La La Land. Let me try this comparison list again using the correct CT-6.

Carver TFM-25 released 1989, 225w x 2, with meters
Carver TFM-42 released 1989, 375w x 2, with meters
Carver TFM-45 released 1989, 375w x 2, with meters
Of course there more before this date and after. I like the TFM-35 myself, 1992.

Welcome c2rower! Man, I am off site for a couple of days, and BAM! two new members right in my back yard. The bug is bad once it bites. Although I've only heard a handful of Carver amps & receivers, I haven't met one I didn't like. Glad to see you on the forum!

Hey there icravcarver, I used to work in Mattydale, at Feldmieier Equipment on Townline Rd.
