Hi guys!! Another newbie to the forum and I need advice.

I'm so happy I found this site.

I first bought my carver system back in 92 and I love it. I bought the amazin speakers. The black laquer ones that have 4 12in wolfers in each with the ribbons. I have the ct-6 pre-amp, td-1400 tape deck, sd/a-350 5 disk cd player and also bought the...m-4.0t.

My problem is this. An ex-gf decided she would take scissors to the wolfers and now they need replaced. Which ones do I need and where do I get them? How hard are they to replace? They seemed wired different than any thing that I'm familiar with.

My cd changer doesn't power up (which I'm sure is the fuse) but it is also off track because when it did power on....it dragged when the caroseul moved positions. I would like to get it fixed.

My last thing is that I would like to get another 4.0 and bridge it with my current one. Now I was told when I purchased the amp that it has to be bridged with the same one. Is this correct? I'm having trouble finding one but I didn't know if it were possible to bridge it something else.

That was actually a couple years ago and I just haven't gotten them fixed. Thats why I'm glad I stumbled upon this site!!

You want the WP-1220. Wire them up just like you see the old ones.

Throw the spinner in the trash. CD player technology has advanced way beyond that player.

Bridging isn't all it's cracked up to be. You'll lose headroom and increase distortion all for a few dB gain in volume. You're much better off bi-amping or simply finding a better stereo amp.

I'm not a techie so is there an amp you'd recommend to go along with the 4.0 or a stronger amp?

Yea I kinda figured that with the cd player but just thought I would ask. Just kind hard throwing away a carver component. Needed some reassurance.

I can recommend all kinds of amps, but knowing your price range would be a big help.

I would say my limit would be no more than a couple grand.

I guess I would need some advice as to whether run 2 amps or just one. I was reading on here about veritcal bi-amping or bi-wiring.

I guess I just want to get the best sound possible out of my speakers and honestly I'm just not sure how to do that

Welcome very nice starter system. Stick with F1 suggestions. They are right on the money.

Do you have pics of your speakers? Single or dual binding posts?

This is what I have. The damage looks worse than what it is but yea they need some work.

You can see in the last couple pics the damage she did. I bought these new in 92 when I was in the military.

I have moved around quite abit but took really special care when transporting them.

Those look like they could be refoamed. It's not real hard to do, I just refoamed a pair of Reynolds Advance A+. On mine the foams had rotted out from old age, the hardest part was getting them cleaned up. I got my foam surrounds from http://www.newfoam.com/ the guy I talked to was Dave, he seemed very knowledgable and he was very helpful. Might be a less expensive way to go then buying new woofers. If you do decide to refoam ask for the deluxe kit then you also get new dust caps.

Yea..there isn't really anything wrong with the cone. The problem is part dry rot and part scissors and part pyscho path.
