Welcome!. I think I have the same feeling about Carver/Sunfire gear. A few years back I replaced my carver system with a new receiver that was supposed to do it all. A Pioneer Elite VSX-59txi. I think it is one of the best units Pioneer made (I will no longer lift it myself because it is too heavy), after this model they moved production out of Japan and quality went downhill big time, especially in the amp part of the newer units (you are lucky if they produce half of what they are rated at if all channels are loaded on the new units). This was the lines flagship receiver at the time costing around $4,000 (I lucked out and got my unit second had for $600). This thing is spectacular when it comes to movies but it just never could match my carver gear when it came to listening to music. I eventually put a digital time lens and sonic hologram generator on the pree out main in loop for the front channel amp and it helped out but still not the same. So I set up just a two channel system in a second room with my carver gear and that is where I go to listen to music. I guess I could try driving my carver amps with the pioneer’s pre outs and see what that is like but I have never taken the time. The Carver /Sunfire gear is just more musical to me, and now I have OCCD so i have no choice.
