FNG to the site and to Carver. Need some recommendations.

Yea,Maybe the under a grand statement was a bit bold.But still The TFM-45 is hard amp to beat without breaking the bank.Point being He wouldn't be disapointed in its performance,and Alot more could be spent on a lot less amplifier.well worth the 500 to 1000 smackers performance wise.IMHO.I haven't heard the Sunfire 300x2,(I'm In Iowa,were most people think best buy sells decent audio,I Doubt there's one in the whole State!)so I can't really comment on that,But isn't the 45 a fairly capable amp driving difficult loads also?

The 45 is no slouch, and I'm not saying it is.... but it would shut down driving a 2 ohm load for any period of time. The 300x2 will put STUPID power into that load (1200 watts).

One option I thought about was to have it shipped directly to Rolland by the seller. Would have saved me about $120. (ship to me initially and then to Rolland) However, used paypal and wanted to inspect in the event was not as described. If I had bought from a member on the forum and was informed in need of a chassis rebuild, would have considered that option to Rolland directly.

I agree, and have thought the same. Unless is was someone on here that y'all said was a good guy, I'd want to get it sent to me first just to make sure everything was good. Shipping on this kind of weight can kill ya! I just did a shipment to Montana of 2 pieces of my old Proton equipment, and it cost almost $80. But the buyer paid for it, so no loss on my part.

This 45 went for just about what I paid for a non-operational 55. To pay over $600.00 for an amp that hasn't been "gone over" recently isn't wise IMHO.

Your 300X2 might be a little overkill for my system. I'll be driving 5 ohms and from what I've read on here it will be the best bang for the buck. Of course if you want to sell me your 300X2 for $300 or so, I'd be happy to help you out.

OK!!! Looks like I've found my TFM-45! I bought it, along with a CT-26v and 2 remotes from a Craigs list ad for $400 including shipping. I feel like I got a pretty good deal. What do y'all think?

The TFM-45 is supposed to be in good working condition. The CT-26v has some issue with the left channel (static, scratchy). When I get them I'll be sending everything off for a going through so they should last for many more years.

You can PROBABLY fix the scratchy pot issue with generous application of Caig De-Oxit. Don't buy it from Radio Shack (1-2 OZ); go to Caig online & order it in bulk (MUCH cheaper!).

Yes, the shipping can eat you up. IMHO the cost to get this equipment in to Ritas, have it referb'd, and returned will be worth the price. I'm hoping to get a Bob Carver signature on them too. This equipment should then last for many years. As old as I am it will more than likely be still playing music at my wake.

UPDATE:
Got the TFM-45 and a CT-6 with 2 remotes today. Have not hooked them up yet, but will do tomorrow.
The TFM 45 looks great. The CT-6 is missing the power button, but otherwise looks good. Hope Ritas can replace the missing button.
