Hello to all!

Hello everyone,

My name is Chris and I am 38. I have been a long time music fan. I have always had the latest equipment, in the working man's price range. However, being recently married, I set up a single unit, all-in-one surround sound in my living room. Everything is out of sight, and has a great sound for movies, but when I went to play music... AHHHHHHH! That being said, I just picked up a Carver MXR130 for $40, had it serviced and cleaned, and it sounds great! I have 3 pairs of speakers, Advents, Infinty RS10s, and JBL 2500s.
I would like to get a nice single disc player next. I really am open to advice on any improvements, setup, etc...
I also am in need of 6 knobs for the MXR-130, 3 round, and 3 of the "slotted"

Hello Chris and welcome to the Carver forum. Unfortunately the Carver Corp. has been gone for quite some time now, so replacement parts can only be had on the used market. I might suggest watching Craigslist or Flea-Prey for a defunct unit that happens to have the knobs that you can acquire on the cheap.

I personally do not know what the knobs look like on that particular unit but we have some on this board that may be able to custom craft you some knobs or find an acceptable solution if we can get more information on what knobs and where on the unit they are located. A picture of the unit you currently have will help us to help you. If you don't know how to link a photo here, just go to a site such as Photbucket, download the pic there and cut/paste the image here. Just try to be sure to reduce the pic size as not to make it take up 8 screens of the monitors we look at.

As far as the single disc player, the Jolida JD100 is an excellent player that can be had for $500.00 or less depending on where you find it. If you want a Carver player, I would suggest looking into the Carver 490t. I wouldn't skimp on the source because you can't make chicken soup out of chicken shit. I have the Jolida and it's been in my rig for well over two years after trying out literally over 40 CDP's throughout my audio journey.

My name is Andrew. I have been a Carver fan for a number of years. I have a pair of Amazing Loudspeaker Silver edition for many years driven by 1.5T amp. I just love these speakers and amp combination. I also have the T11 tuner and it is one of the best tuner in the market. However, lately one of speaker developed a buzzing sound at certain high frequency. I was able to reduce or almost eliminate the buzz by pushing a piece of dense foam through the slots in front of the ribbon, pushing it until it touches ribbon gently. Now the buzzing is almost gone, but till audible at some high notes at high volume. I like to find a permanent fix to this problem. Any suggestion?

Sorry, I can't help you with your knobs. I will make a suggestion on the CD player though. Well, actually it's a Bluray player that does a most excellent job of playing CD's too. It's the OPPO 83SE. With this player you can play BluRay's, DVD's SACD's as well as regular CD's. Since you are interested in movies as well as music, this could be something well worth looking into. The price on the 83SE is a little high, $899 MSRP, but it's the most bang for the buck you can find. The BDP 83SE has HDMI, as well as 8 channel analog for surround, but one of the best features IMHO is the separate 2 channel analog output. Do a little research on the web and you can find out everything about it.

Good suggestion from helicopterpilotdoug on the OPPO player. I have the OPPO player and love it! but,, The tube output stage on the Jolida is "very nice". I prefer the Jolida over the OPPO playing CD's. The only time I use the OPPO is for SACD and DVD's but I really don't have many SACD's in my collection.
oh P.S. Have you warned your wife yet about your upcoming audio adventures??
