Hello and need help with recent purchase

Hi

Just joined. Of course, I need some help.

I've had Carver items before, and had a killer system on my last boat, which was a "Carver" as well. Had the reference CD, a TFM 45, etc.

I just bought a set of silver ribbon speakers, and MXR130 integrated receiver, a CT-Seven preamp receiver, a M-4.0t amp, and a small "Loudspeaker Control System" which does not appear to have an identifying model number on it.

I have questions on the small speaker system box. Is this something that came with the ribbon speakers? It appears it would be connected between the preamp and amp. Can somebody tell me the Carver model number for this. How about some comments on its usefulness.

The speakers connected to the M4.0t and CT-Seven, is awesome. Everything is great. Very happy. And for what I paid (you'll die - $240.00 plus tax put it at just under $255.00 at the local resale shop for everything), I should care less about the MXR130. But it won't work. I hook up the speakers, turn everything off and volume down, plug it in, turn it on. All I get is the two meters' red lights are lit, and the display only has the word "CARVER" illuminated. No matter what input I select, nothing happens. I can turn the volume knob full clockwise and back, and no change in the meters. It's as if the display has lost its power.

I read the service manual on another website, and the cure for a "dead" unit, or intermittent am/fm display, is to clean some components on the back side of the display.

Should I give that a try?

Any other ideas?

Re: Hello and need help with recent purchase

I see you started another thread on the receiver problem; yes, the other unit came with the Silver Amazings, and it does go between the preamp and power amp.

and WELCOME!

Welcome - \:D/ \:D/

You are the guy I have been hoping would show up here.

Damn, a guy with Carver on his yacht :-" :-"
I have read about you guys. One of you had ribbons on his boat and told me to go for it.

I only have a tiny pontoon, but it has good audio, and am now researching subs for it.

Not the same, but my best junk is on my deck.
My ribbons went through the Summer with no ill effect, and now Winter is approaching -> like on a boat.
My Carver amp and everything lives out here. Right now it is 49 degrees, low humidity of 70%. #-o #-o

Welcome - post often.

Re: Hello and need help with recent purchase

Is this what you have??

I have a pair of the original Carver ALS and I got these 2 boxes with them when I was doing R&D back then.

They do not have the "Carver" name or any serial numbers

They are "Sub-Bass Room Dampers" which go between the amp and preamp (as they say next to the input/output)

I tested them back in 1986 but unplugged them and just added them to my collection so they are still like new.

Tell you the truth not many guys like us want to damp the bass when we are having fun annoying the neighbors 8)

And yes those are my original Carver ALS's in the background.
