Re: Unwelcome Bastards of the day contest!

Just so everyone knows, there is/was a method to my madness.

The only real options you have are:

1) auto allow everyone to register, and weed out the spam as it shows up (which I prefer)
2) manually weed through 100+ registrations PER DAY, and hope you don't let a spammer in, OR block a legit future member. Which WILL happen since the only things you have to go by are the username and the email address. and allot of times, the spammers LOOK like legit members until they post.

There is no real easy way to force every new member into a specific corner till they prove themselves.

It is now set to manual authorization, which will create a TON more work on our end, but you won't see any spam, and if someone tries to register, and no one authorizes them right away... Will they bother coming back? Not the best option in my opinion, but you guys won't see much spam this way.

Re: Unwelcome Bastards of the day contest!

That's the problem. Legitimate new members may be overlooked, falsely nuked, or may lose interest before they are authorised (casting doubt on their eagerness to become quality members...)
Or worse, the auto-reply letter announcing their approved membership may be siezed by their email server and directed into their spam file instead of their inbox, and the prospective new member may never see it! They just assume that they have been rejected.
The alternative is leaving the door open and sweeping up the shit as it arrives.
A pox on all spammers.

Re: Unwelcome Bastards of the day contest!

Thanks so much for your help! I know it can be frustrating (to say the least) seeing spam come through the site but I can also see that it may turn into a part time job filtering through the whole mess. Anywho, thanks again and good luck!

Glad to help!! There have been a few activations, if ANY of them are spammers, I will deal with them, my father had me change the registration email that I send to in-active users, so we will see how great of an idea it was!

ALSO, anyone who wants to donate, or is thinking about donating, I couldn't accept them... I am working on the forum as charity, just as I did with the manuals, so please don't offer!!

Glad to help and thanks for understanding!!

I may be a kid, but I have been brought up by a WONDERFUL father who drilled reality into the heads of his children (not kissing ass, it's true). I am not spoiled, but I do have everything I could possibly want... I was taught to work for my possessions, and to me this isn't work (YET)!!

So far, this is no different than what I do every day, I check my email, go on the forum, go onto facebook, and then close safari (Mac version of IE). Needless to say, it doesn't bother me to do this, it's quite fun! I get the satisfaction of deleting people with a few simple taps on my iPad!!! Tap, delete!!! Tap, delete!!! I could do it all day!!!! :D :D

Re: Unwelcome Bastards of the day contest!

Here's the one I have. I love it !!!
I don't like the ifrogz case because it doesn't cover the top and bottom totally.

The case I have now doesn't protect the top and bottom either and there is still no scratches after 2-3 months. I like the iFrogz case because it has gripy material covering 90% of the back to keep the iPad from sliding. I have an iPod classic with eGrips on it, and it doesn't slide when put on a 70-80 degree angle!!!
