New Fella - 1st Amp

Post by vigotone » Mon Jun 20, 2011 6:28 pm

Just saying hi. I'm in the market for my first dedicated multi-channel amp, and it looks like it's going to be a Sunfire. Used or new, I'm not sure, but I'm leaning towards a used Cinema Grand Signature Series II "Architect's Choice" (if I can find one). Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I should add that I'm currently running a Denon 4308ci Receiver, with the following speakers:

Axiom m22ti
Axiom VP150
Axiom QS8
HSU VTF-2 Sub

But I'll be replacing the bookshelves with a pair of M80s pretty soon.

I disagree.
Just buy a Walmart amp or something.

The Sunfires have a virus. I think it is called OCCD.

=D> \:D/ Welcome!! \:D/ =D> Sunfires are the way to go for sure. You just missed a 17" 425x5 on ebay, went for $1,500 shipped. The one before that sold for $2,000 plus shipping. Those were the only 2 I remeber seeing in the last few months. Good luck in your search!!

How do you like those Axioms ? I was almost sold on them for awhile. I've heard their very bright sounding ! Is this true ?

Wow! I'm overwhelmed by the warm welcome. What a great place.

I am located in Los Angeles. I love my Axiom set-up, though I should say that this is the first hi-end system I've ever had (I bought it in 2003), so while they don't seem bright to me, I don't have much of a basis for comparison. I'm in the process of ripping all my CDs to Apple Lossless on a Mac Mini music server connected to a Lindemann 24/192 USB DAC, and it's caused me to rediscover my music collection. As such, I've decided to upgrade to the M80s, so a Sunfire amp is really going to make a difference with those.

I was following that 17" Signature auction on eBay, but I let it go, figuring another would be along soon. I didn't realize they were few and far between! Hopefully if I get up to 50 posts I'll be able to spot one here in the marketplace!

Don't forget to check audiogon frequently.

oh, and WELCOME!

So will you be using the Denon for the front end/processor with the Sunfire?

Yes, for the time being, I'll use the Denon 4308 as a Pre/Pro, until it's time to upgrade. I'm happy with the video processing, and I've gotten the wife used to the interface, so I'm hesitant to switch!

I'll keep checking Audiogon and ebay. Any other outlets? Does Bob sell any older units directly?
