NC Noob Here

Greetings,

Just found this group. Located in Greensboro NC.

My system consists of an M500t I have had for almost 25 years, which seems a lot shorter! Currently rebuilding my 2 channel speakers: Audio Concepts G2 's getting new surrounds and tweeters installed this week. Found great ACI resources on Audi Circle for that.

Using an NAD 1130 Pre Amp until I can find the one I want, and I also so I can listen to my vinyl on another relic, Optonica RP-7505 with Sumiko Black Pearl.

Plans goinng forward: Learn about when and how to Recap the M500t, Research Preamps and CD Players and ecommended interconnects and speaker wires that pair well with Carver, and get this system back up to speed. Occasionally drooling about planar speakers my wife cannot distinguish from the walls...

I made the mistake of reading the Carver MK II site...and definitely will want to get opinions on doing that upgrade. I figure my gear is at the age where a recap wouuld be needed, do hours of operation also have an impact and not just age of the electrolytics?

Biggest factors are age & how hard it's been driven (heat).

I'm another Damn Yankee in the Southland, one that got here 10 years ago and won't go back....love NC and the great people here. I have a friend here I call the hifi garbage man. He literally found a massive pair of klipch horns on the curbside. Cabinets needed work but the drivers will still amazing. Me, not so lucky...

As far as the mroot, it was driven pretty hard when it was new, and then has been babied for most of the last 24 years, in mothballs for 10.... Is best bet to perform a visual inspection of the capacitors to look at condition?

Sound is good now driving a pair of small monitors. I will know much better in a few weeks when I break in my rebuilt stereo mains. Hooked it up this week and sampled a variety of vinyl and digital recordings. The turn table is still sounding surprisingly good in the monitors, won't be able to hear the 20-40 hz performanced yet til I get my test disks running on the big guns....wife will be loving that 20 hz test tone...

If it's been put away for 10 years there's a good chance the caou have dried out. Bring it to CarverFest in Sep...i'm.sure Bob could check it for you~
