Hello Carver fans! I was cruising the net & found this site. Read a few things & was impressed by what I saw, so registered & stopped in to say hello & ask a question. I'm not a newbie when it comes to audio, so it's nice to stop by a place like this.
I have a C-4000 and one of the cards are bad, so I pulled it out & the pre seems to work fine. I'm using it in a standard 2-channel set-up, so guessing the card has something to do w/the holographic aspect. So, if I run it like this am I just bypassing a circuit or am I headed for trouble down the road?
All the tone controls, including all the buttons on the left, work fine, along w/volume & balance. The headphone output works too.
On the pic of the card, the pointer shows where the smoke got out. On the unit, the pen shows where it went.
Hope to hear back from somebody!

Re: Newbie & question about C-4000
It looks like the IC you're pointing to shorted internally, based on the bubble in the case. If you can find a replacement IC, it shouldn't take much to fix the board as the only other components on it are resistors, diodes, a few capacitors, and a single transistor. Troubleshooting it should be a snap, and then you'll have a FULLY FUNCTIONAL C-4000. Woooo, Woooo!

Re: Newbie & question about C-4000
first of all check all the registers, only then replace a new IC. if one of the resisters are dead, don't replace itdriver wrote:Hello Carver fans! I was cruising the net & found this site.
