Hi from Arizona!

Post by michael88 » Mon Sep 29, 2014 4:58 am

Hello! I just acquired a pair of Carver ALS Platinum speakers with the intention of restoring them. I don't know which version they are yet. I am excited to start this venture! The speakers will be run by BGW 750C amplifiers. Any suggestions on repairing these would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Michael

Glad to see you made it to the site! Boy are you in for a ride with those speakers, in the end it will be worth it. The pics you posted show the ribbons or ribbon are done. What I would do is take the front grills off and have a look at the woofers, they most likely will need new surrounds depending on what speakers are installed, there are full replacements available if needed. I would not recommend trying to fix the ribbons on your own it can’t be done without the right equipment and materials. We are here to help if you need it

Unfortunately rebuilding a set of 60" ribbons will run about $900
Here is the link to the repairs page. http://www.carveraudio.com/?page_id=97

Anyone on the forum that's had their ribbons rebuilt can tell you, for the $$, you won't find a better sounding speaker.
Figure in the end, you might have $1000-2000 into restoring them. There's nothing new on the market that can touch them for $1500

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.
