M 500t proximity to television...

This may be a stupid question, but I have to ask. Will the magnetic field amplifier, (M 500t) cause any problem with my television if it's too close? I have a good spot for the amp, but it is only a couple of inches from the picture tube.

Release the hounds,

Re: M 500t proximity to television...

No more than any other amplifier that close to a tube. IIRC, it's the permanent magnets in speakers that are the problem without shielding.
It should sound like it isn't there!

Re: M 500t proximity to television...

Thanks Bill. I wasn't sure and didn't want to find out the hard way. I'm working towards having my system sound like it isn't there. I've replaced the two bad 2200uF caps and am waiting for the two supply caps to arrive for my M 500t. In the mean time I've added pin connectors to my speaker wires so that they'll fit the amp posts better and added a muffin fan to the back of my shelf to help keep everything cool.

Thanks again for all the help and good info.

The M-500(t) amp is easy to work on (compared to other Carver amps, although the traces are somewhat fragile). Here's what I did to my non-t M-500.

Re: M 500t proximity to television...

Hey BillD my M500t has never been touched since new, and it's still working would it be wise to replace the Caps before something does go wrong with it? Or should I wait till it quits then send it to Rita or Rolland.

Re: M 500t proximity to television...

I'd go look around in it. Any bulging and I'd totally recap the entire thing. When my big PS caps went, it smoked like a sonofabitch. Didn't do any damage, though, because I was in the room and shut it off quickly.
