Carver TFM-55x Input Impedence

Post by thsmith » Tue Jun 30, 2009 8:19 pm

Getting ready to send my TFM-45 out for service and need to put the 55x in service.

If anyone has access to a 55x manual I need to know the input impedence.

Thanks,

TS

I don't have a 55x manual, but the TFM-55 (no x) says 47k ohms.
It should sound like it isn't there!

Reading those specs, it's no wonder that most of us need to attenuate our sources a lot. That 55x has an input sensitivity of 1.5v (that drives it to rated power). Many digital output devices deliver 3v or more. That didn't used to be the norm. For instance, the fixed output on my Kenwood KT-8300 tuner is 0.75v and 1v for my Nakamichi cassette player.

I am so glad I checked here because I was going to assume the same Input Impedance as my TFM-45 which is 115Kohms.

HUGE differences.

Thanks again.

Thanks Rich. The SN on my TFM-45 is 114001, I assume that makes mine prior to those SN numbers and the higher Input Impedence ?

I searched around a bit. And couldn't find much of an answer on this forum. Cam someone tell me what is input impedence and how does it affect amps/preamps.
