Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
Spent the afternoon tearing down the old system and hooking up the new.
All of the audio inputs seem to work but I can't get the On Screen Display up to program all of the options.
For various reasons I decided not to run my Video Sources (FIOS and DVD) through the Ultimate. I was attempting to feed the OSD from the UR to my Samsung HDTV by connecting from the Main Video Out to an AUX IN on the TV. No Joy.The documentation stinks on the Samsung so I can't be sure if that connection is composite or not. The TV seems to sense a signal but won't display bupkus
Is it possible to program without the OSD?
Do I have to route my video sources through the Ultimate to enable the OSD?
Inquiring minds want to know
Thanks

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
The answer to the last question is no. You have to select on the Ultimate (if it's like the TGP-III) whether your output is S-video or composite (and whether it is on Video 1 or Video 2). Then attach the cable to your TV from the appropriate video connection on the Sunfire using the appropriate type of connection. Then, put your TV on that input and press Menu on the remote. You can do it by looking at the display on the Sunfire, but the menus are much abbreviated and confusing.
It should sound like it isn't there!

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
I am also relatively new to the UR and have not set it up for HT use, but I get the OSD directly from the main out using a composite input to the TV. If the port on your Samsung is yellow, then it should be composite video. Page 30 of the manual states:
The On Screen Display (OSD) is present at the composite video or S-video MAIN outputs. It is also present at the output labeled VID2/MON2, but only if it is set to MON2. Make sure that your TV monitor's video input is connected correctly to one of these outputs.
OSD is NOT available on the component video. Make sure you connected your composite cable to the output of the UR.

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
The other post are correct, but in my research on LCD's I found the Samsung did not have an S-Video input?? I use from my TGP-III the S-Video main out to my S-Video in on the TV (not Samsung). It does sound like you will have to use Composite > and make sure you select composite in the Samsung settings. Good luck

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
Some observations of my new Sunfire Ultimate
I have noticed a significant difference between Source Direct Mode and Party Mode
In Party Mode the Input Gain strength seems dramatically weaker resulting in a slightly muffled
effect lacking dynamic range. This was true with all sources (Tape-Both Cd Players-TT)
I have mitigated this significantly by changing the output from my 490T to the variable output connections and juicing up the gain. That works like a charm. There appears to be no similar option within the Pre Amp stage of the UR. You can only reduce, not increase, line input signal from any source in any Mode. I realize that Source Direct bypasses all of the digital proccessing but would that overhead itself be the cause of reduced input signal strength?
Just curious.
I am probably the only fool around who uses this beast primarily in Party Mode in lieu of Source Direct 2 channel. This due to room size and acoustics as well as a masochistic desire to watch the pictures and plants dance along with me as I revel in the sonic power
On another note: Does anyone lnow the device code to enter into the remote to control the 490T? Cycled through the range but the CD never turned on.
Thanks to all

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
What speakers are you running in party mode? It was my understanding that party mode played "all" speakers including the center and surrounds at the same time. don't know about your remote, but on my TGP-III there was no code found for our older Sony VHS player, but there is a series of buttons pushed aiming the remote to "manually" program any button you desire to run functions. Maybe look in the manual programming the remote manually?

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever
Well, you'd think that splitting the signal φ times would have some effect on gain (like φ times -3dB)
It should sound like it isn't there!
