It was my understanding that party mode played "all" speakers including the center and surrounds at the same time. don't know about your remote, but on my TGP-III there was no code found for our older Sony VHS player, but there is a series of buttons pushed aiming the remote to "manually" program any button you desire to run functions. Maybe look in the manual programming the remote manually?

I use all speakers except center when in Party Mode
I will try manual programming

What does "party mode" do with the center and the subwoofer. Are they mono mixes? Are the mains and surrounds stereo pairs? What about the side axis speakers?

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever

All the manual says about PARTY mode is:

This extra stereo mode copies the
front speaker signals to the other
speakers in your system. This
mode adds tremendous presence
to your stereo sources and is
great for parties and casual listening
alike. The OSD menu can be
used to select which speakers are
active in this mode.

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever

Yeah, Gary, I know what it says. I can run an experiment to test whether it's stereo or not, I just want to know about the center and the sub.

Hey BillD

Don't run party mode with the center but do run the sub
Appears to have the same controls as any DSP mode on the sub

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever

UR is dead

Was running 5.1 at a very low level and it quit with no warning.
Pulled AC plug and got the usual thump.
Plugged back in and no power up at all.
Dead ](*,)

I love the sound of Carver gear but have had 3 units crap out on me in the last 2 years.

Anyone know the fuse rating for the UL?
Can't read the writing.

Can't find what fuse it is; is it blown?

Sounds like you have power issues. Ever had your line checked??

Hi Rabbit

I am afraid this behavior is significantly more serious than past blips.
Unit is still getting AC from the outlet but refuses to reset or exhibit any signs of power.
No LED's
No response from Remote or front panel controls.
Pulled plug with thump but no joy when attempting reentry.
I have numerous computers and networking gear as well as an HDTV that are working fine on the same circuit
Checked documentation and found no reference at all about fuse rating but since I get the thump when plug is pulled I assume power is being propagated to the supply on the UR.

Most dissapointed as I have no funds for a trip to Rita.
I am beginning to feel snakebit with this brand of gear.
Had a Marantz 2285B that ran for a long time.......
Sadness :(

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever

That's too bad; I've had nothing but good luck with both Carver & Sunfire gear. Unfortunately, it looks like you got a bad unit.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Well if you are any good at opening up stuff and can check to see if there is any PC mounted fuse holders on any of the boards that may be your next thing to check along with any thing like a broken ground wire too! Eddie!

Don't have a Meter to measure.
Even if I found one the replacement would just as likely blow as well.
This piece is as unstable as Wall Street
I guess I will drag the HR-895 out of the basement and run 2 channel until I can find a unit that can drive a 4 ohm load at volume.
Next purchase will not be on Ebay and won't be a Carver....
Hate to say it boys but I've had enough.
Nice technology....but brittle as bone china
Thanks to all

Re: Need Help with my new Ultimate Reciever

Hope this helps.... Try a hard reset.
Taken from the Users Manual

Receiver does not respond to any controls
• Unplug AC power momentarily, and press Power to turn back on
• If this does not work, try the reset procedure on the next page.

"Protect" shows in the display
The Receiver has thermal and short-circuit protection circuits.
If the ampliÞ er internal temperature is high,
a quiet fan will engage and start to cool things down.

If the temperature increases further,
the Receiver will go into a standby
mode and "Protect" will appear in the
display. When it cools sufÞ ciently, the
Receiver will turn back on.
If the Receiver goes into protect
mode often, check the following:
• Each speaker’s average impedance
is not less than 4 ohms.
• The Receiver has good ventilation,
none of its vents are covered.
• Try setting all the speakers to
Small, and let your subwoofers
handle the heavy bass.
• Check that the ampliÞ er power
output is a good match for your
speakers. If your speakers are
inefÞ cient, consider using an external
power amplifier.

Reset procedure
The Receiver is a microprocessor
controlled device of great complexity.
Occasional power Fluctuations and
spikes may cause the Receiver to
"lock up" or act strangely.

The Receiver can be reset as follows.
Warning: the Receiver will be reset to the factory defaults,
and will clear all memory. All your stored OSD settings and
Tuner presets will be erased.

•
Write down your calibration settings, input settings,
Tuner presets, and any other settings you have made.
•
Press the power button to turn the unit off, or turn it off from the wall for a moment.
Press and continue to hold down the front panel Power button and the Tone DOWN button at the same time.

The Receiver will power on and cycle through the display. Keep holding the buttons down until
"Resetting to Factory Defaults" appears in the front panel display

When the Receiver has been reset, it will shut off. •

Turn the Receiver back on and it will go to the default screen. It has now been reset.

If the Receiver has to be reset regularly, you should invest in a good quality AC line conditioner.
Whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it's very important that you do it... because nobody else will.

‎~You think Einstein walked around thinkin' everyone was a bunch of dumb shits?~

SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!
