I am not up on it all like you guys -

I saw this amp last night.
I can't use it, but it looks to me like a very desirable amp for someone.

Any of you know about that amp? Give me a history lesson to add to my Carver education.

I have its baby brother , the A-500x. OK amp, especially for bass. Has lots of parallel output devices which means it can deliver a lot of current and voltage simultaneously. The A-760 amp is just like the A-500x, except it has more output devices installed on a common amplifier card. The A line is the successor to the TFM line.

I've had 2 760x's, still have a 500x and a 400x. I've always like the "A" series myself. They're great but I'd think $600 shipped would be a max price for a perfect one. I'd rather have a Sunfire 300x2 if I had a choice though and they do come up time to time at the $650-$800 price. My $.02

I seem to have a thing for 250W/channel amplifiers. Only my 2 cubes are less than that, but I have 2 M-500ts, and M-500, a C-500 and an A-500x - all 250WPC. Of course, then there's the 400x7, but that's for ribbons.

You know, the thing that prompted me to sell my A-760x was my A-400x. I was in love with my 760x but then the 400x popped up on eBay for $150 shipped and I'll be damned if it didn't sound and seem just as powerful as my 760x. I had one channel of each amp running one of my speakers (Chorus IIs at the time) and I could not tell which one was which-- same exact sound coming from each speaker and both cranked out more music then my ears could stand. So I sold the 760x and have been happy with my 400x.

I thought I was getting another 400t cube last week cheap, but then it went too high --

ebay can be a cheap place to shop if you never win. Just this week, I was high at $501 (over reserve) and was closing on a pair of CRS-3s I have no need of. Then the seller took them down when no one was bidding what he wanted ---

I could count on one hand how many items I bought on auction. Most of the really good deals pop up "buy it now" and are sold in minutes and 99.9% of people never even see the listing. I'm getting ready to go back to work next month so I won't be hard at it for too much longer, atleast for this season. Did anyone see the TFM-55 last night for $250 shipped?

wow what a deal I would have bought that in an instant, I have found all my amps on buy it now I'm always looking all the time I have saved searches newly listed for carver stuff I'm addicted lol

The seller did say "unit powers on but nothing happens". So it wasn't a working unit.

Yes, but did you see the listing before it sold? That was my point. I live about 2 miles from Rita's Vintage Audio and as soon as I receive it, that's where it's going.

Yeah, well have to wait and see how good of a score though. If it can be fixed for the $120 bench fee, then great but a full rebuild at $300 puts it at an ok deal. Either way it's in really good condition and worth fixing.

definately worth it!

If this hasn't been mentioned before, I find a lot of good deals at repair shops. People drop gear off for repair and never return for it, it's already been serviced and it usually comes with a 90 day warranty. Another way I've acquired some great deals is through service calls (master electrician) by talking to customers about their gear. Quite often they have older equipment they have stored in a closet and offer it to me for very little money and sometimes for free. Now that's a great deal.
