C-11 vs. C-1

I just picked up a C-11 preamp and can find precious little information about it other than the owners manual. In looking at not only the physical size, but also the specifications, it appears to be identical to the C-1 except for the color of the cabinet (black) and a variation in the sonic holography circuitry, designated "Video Precognition," but seemingly this is just another (marketeer's) way to state 'Wide,' according to the owners manual. Does anyone here currently own or has owned a C-11? Can you tell me anything more about it? Is it, in fact, very similar in performance to the C-1?

Kingman has a couple of them I think...he should be able to enlighten you...

If you take the top off of it, I think you will see a daughter board that contains the modification to the sonic holography circuit. Otherwise, I think the motherboard is a C-1.

Great versatile pre amp updated black face version of the C-1. Newer version of Carver sonic holigraphy. I'm lisitening to one of mine currently and it has a great tonal quality. I'd say you have a great pre amp!

What are your thoughts on the C-11? What did you previously have? I've got mine pushing a Lightstar amp and currently listening to the TX-12 tuner through a set of CRM-2's.

I picked up the C-11 as a direct result of OCCD. I'm currently using a Sunfire Vacuum Tube Preamplifier with a Sunfire 300~2 Amplifier, a Carver TX-11 Tuner, C-9 Sonic Hologram Generator, a pair of CRM-2s and a True Sub EQ 10". Previously, I used a C-16 (briefly) and a 4000t with an M1.5t and AL-IIIs, and before the AL-IIIs, a pair of Spica Angelus, and before those, a pair of Phase Linear Andromeda IIIs. (I also have Phase Linear 2000 Series II and 3000 Series II preamps in reserve.)

As a vinyl guy, I think that the phono preamp (MM) in the C-11 is very nearly as good as that in the Sunfire preamp. The 'flexible' tone controls are great, and I like the SH too!

So you've never had a C-1 to compare it to? I certainly like the "black" look of the C-11 better then the "silver" C-1. Your buddy Lance stopped by today and picked up the M-500t-- seems like a nice enough guy. Thanks again for that.

Having both I prefer the look of the C-11 as it matches my gear. If I were running a 500t or similar I of course would prefer a C-1. You can't lose whatever you choose!!!!

If it's like the C-1, there are some improvements that can be made. There are a bunch of 22µF electrolytic caps in the signal path. These can be replaced with some non-polar audio caps. I think there are ten 16V and two 35V 22µ caps like this (the 35V ones come out of the Sonic Hologram generator). Anyway, I upgrade with THESE.
