What's the main difference.........

Good day gentlemen. Just a quick question out of curiosity. I am seeing a couple of amps here locally for sale and I really don't know the main difference between the two.

They are the TFM-35 And the TFM-35x

Could some of you knowledgeable gents help me to understand what the key difference is between the two ? Thanx.

The 'x' model meets THX certification criteria, which means it will output 100 watts at 1 volt input. Doesn't mean jack squat, really.

It has always been my understanding that the TFM-35X did not have the 1 ohm resistor as well, thus sounding more like an SS amplifier versus it's non "X" designation counterpart. It was taken out to meet the THX standards if memory serves.

I'm not positive about that.

& I think there was slightly more to the "t" mod in these than the 1 ohm resistor....

To earn the THX badge, a power amp must be stable into impedance loads as low as 2 ohms and have a fixed input sensitivity, which makes it easier to set the reference (85 dB) volume level. I believe that standard is an input of 1 Volt RMS must produce an output of 100 Watts into an 8Ω load.
