They just Break

I have owned an Hr 895 and a Tfm-15 and an Ultimate Reciever

ALL have Crapped OUT
Don't push them hard
They just fail

2 grand into power and have only a right channel left to show

Not mpressed with Bob Carvers designs

Just sayin boys

When you say "push them hard," do you mean push them beyond what they are designed for, for longer periods of time than should be?

It's just weird that all of your amps are failing..

Sorry you've had bad luck! I'm sure the design Isn't to blame.

An Hr 895 running 2 channels and fails
The TFM -15 was running 4 ohm load and failed- ok
I will say that load was exessive

Lots of effort and money here and can't keep a config working
Like the sound
Hate the break

Going MAC for the money
Sick of recabling

I too have been through many audio things from my first record player in 1960.

Let me think --

I presently have 3 Carver amps, 2 SunFire amps, 2 Carver preamps and some Sunfire speakers.

I can see how at some point these might need to be refreshed.
I push my gear hard and much of it is on the deck in +100 or freezing, maybe a rain splatter in a storm.

It all works hard and sounds exceptional.
If you have a better option, tell me about it.

Everything breaks, but so far after years of abuse - none of mine have.

I'm guessing that rather than us being lucky, you may be unlucky.

I have accumulated (2) M400t's, (1) M500t, (1) C-1 Pre, (1) Tx11a Tuner, (1) Sunfire TGP III, (1) Sunfire 5400 amp, A pair of Amazing Loudspeakers silver edition and a pair of Sunfire CRM ribbon speakers. This over a 30 year period.

Unlike you I do push them hard on a regular basis and other than replacing the woofers/foam on the Amazings I have never had a Carver product fail.

On the contrary they are very resiliant.

Maybe you pissed of a witch doctor or just a witch.

I did buy one that have bad caps, that said these amps are 20+ years old, the caps will start to fail.

Mr3putt- do you have your amps protected electrically? Maybe you have a surge problem from power company or your line keeps getting hit by lightning..... I had 2 amps fried from lightning in the past then I got smart and got power conditioning gear.

I have never heard of a Carver or Sunfire amp just blowing up for no apparent reason.....Bob's circuits are designed to provide power like no other- unless you are spending 10x the money!

IDK.... I feel like I pretty much beat on my stuff on a regular basis! Amps running so hot that they would fry eggs! Tripping out ect... Never has one failed to play after a cooling off period.

Since I have increased my amplifier power, I'm in a better spot.... amps now run warm and I can play till the frigin cows come home! Whenever that is?

my tfm 15 crapped out. turns out that it needed some new caps and it was up and running again. just a thought as the caps do have a life span. i can testify first hand. been there, done that.

My C-500 had some early problems, probably because it was the first amp Carver Corporation put out and mine was an early serial number. The had the power supply cap voltage too low, and it kept crapping out and taking some output devices with it. Once they upped the voltage on the caps to 95V (I now have 100V caps in there), the problems went away.
