Un frigin believable!

So I hooked up my new preamp, minus the BBE 2002 and played a little music (1/2 a song)... when I realized that I still had the notch filter activated in the Marchand 2-way crossover. So I powered her down so that I could switch the jumper to the off position... not a big deal, done it a hundred times.

Powered back up and the LF amp (M1.0 MKII) came on line making a huge buzzing noise... way more than the normal noise that it makes. Powered down and rechecked all my connections... looks good, so I power up again and have the same deal, but this time I notice the meter lights floating around. Hmmm listened for a moment heard a pop and then the buzz started going away (as if it were powering down) then the transformer made a clunk of a noise and the buzz came back.

I decided to remove the new pre and put the CT28 back in... no difference.

I disconected the input from the amp... no difference. So I thought well crap the amp must have took a crap and I removed it.

Replaced the amp hooked everything back up, double checked the connections and powered back up (left the new pre out of the mix for now)... the sound was if I had two mute buttons active, barely audible.

So then I went through every combination of equipment available to me and nothing.

Disconnected the Klipsch and hooked up some full range speakers from the garage, removed the electronic crossover and went through one amp at a time.... same result... barely audible.

Changed the source player.... barely audible.

Changed the interconnects... barely audible.

I'm now at a complete loss of what to do?

Sounds to me like it may be your Marchand....look it over inside to see if anything "popped" - sounds like a short.

Just decide to disconect my CT28 and go back to the Dared pre..... I have music again. WTF!

Did you try a different outlet or power strip?

So the M1.0 was a no-go with either pre and I'm a bit afraid of trying it again!

Then when I went back to the CT28 it mysteriously was no longer working?

Source equipment comes off the monster conditioner and the amps are direct into the wall. Everything apeared to have normal power up. Exept the M1.0....

I hate to be powering those tubes up and down.... should I be waiting in between startups???

Now you need to figure out WHY. Did the pre just go bad or did something else cause it? I would not add anything back into the loop until all checked out ....bummer dude!

Sucks, man. Hope it turns out to have a "happy ending". Throw us some more info/feedback (if u have the time/patience). Maybe something will click with someone....
Makes the "FUBAR" fridge issue I awoke to yesterday pale in comparison....I can live without frozen foods.....cannot live without my Carver system(s)

Just had to buy a new fridge -
For $1800 I could have gotten a nice Carver addition.

Now you need to figure out WHY. Did the pre just go bad or did something else cause it? I would not add anything back into the loop until all checked out ....bummer dude!

SHIT! Just realized when I was in the shower (not that you all needed to know that) I disconected the BBE out of the tape loop! So when I put the CT28 back in I should of run the jumpers!!!

So the only real problem is that it looks like my M1.0 MKII .002 took a dump! Hardly ever even used that damn amp!

I feel better!

Unfortunately, we learn by doing.

Last night around midnight, I hooked my new AE speakers in to my bedroom TV (large computer monitor) and got no sound out of one.
I use a vintage wore out Kenwood there. I ran down to the bar and brought up my testing amp (Hong Kong made Certec).
As I changed it over, saw the dog/cat had pulled out the left input connect from the Kenwood.



All my old junk was OK. Hope things go as well for you.

I think I will leave the Certec there. As to new speakers -
