New pre impressions...

So as most of you know.... I had to do a little amp shuffling as I lost my Carver M1.0t MKII .002 that was driving my LF. The thing that sucks is just THAT change was going to change the sound. Good thing I had spent much time lately with both amps and had a good grasp on their sound.

Back to the Dared pre... I let her warm up for an hour (stock tubes) this morning before setting down for a listen. Put in some Neil Young...

Although changes are suttle in some areas... the vocal range is the biggest change, wider presentation (I thinking I can play with speaker placement some more now if that makes sense), just a little more warmth. So I put in some Stevie Ray Vaughn and had the same impressions.

The highs sound more detailed or crisp, kinda not where I wanted to be with horns, but then again... stock tubes.

So I listened to her for about 3 hours this morning.


And decided to go ahead and roll out the 5UG4, 6V6, and 12AT7... all singles.

Warmer her back up now!

OK... so I'm starting to notice the differences in the LF amp (what I didn't like) more now. The TFM is dryer, lacking a warmth compare to the M1.0t... the odd thing about it is that they are like opposite when I flip flop them, where as the TFM drives the HF better, smoother!



OK.. so changing the singles just seemed to do almost nothing, so maybe it's time to put the Sovtek 12AX7's in now.

So I've been noticing that just when I think things sound like (as sugar cock would say) ASS!

I can put in some country and everything sounds sweet and juicy like these nutz.? Whats up with that....

Look on the back of the new room treatments you just put in.......if they're stamped country.....

I dont know why country is recorded better on average. I am not really a fan but I have some Llye lovitt(sp?) and
some Steve Earl that sounds excellent....besides those 2.....not so much a fan. I was lucky and picked up a
2 cd set of "Heart" the other day that sound very good.
All the stuff Dramatico does sounds great but I dont like their artists besides Katie Melua....those are awesome recordings.

I think I should have paid more attention to them long ago... more apparent as the volume level goes up, which I guess makes sense.
