SD/A-360 any good?

Is the Carver SD/A-360 any good? It is only a 1 bit player which in general are poor sonic performers.
I have a friend who has one available, so what are they worth? They are priced high on ePay and no one is buying them.

I've bought a hand full of them off of eBay for around $75 each shipped. I like them personally and several of my friends use them without complaints.

I've had around 4 of them. It's a pretty good sounding player.

I have 1 and it sounds good. TNrabbit has one I just heard at Carverfest and it sounded very good.

I run mine with an outboard DAC, which makes a bit of a difference. They have a hard time playing some ripped discs. mine has performed flawlessly for years.

I saw Gary's and it looks really good. His also sounds really good, but he does use that great external BenchMark Dac.

A computer CD drive would sound good with a Benchmark DAC.

I agree, the Benchmark DAC will make most lowly digital sources sound wonderful. A few years back I used one with one of the early Oppo players, the dv970hd, and it sounded detail and involving and very 3 dimensional. I ran its variable out direct to a tube power amp w/ an very convincing sound. I also used the digital optical out of the tv into it for great tv programming sound. This was a nice system except for the tube amp ran many hours a day for tv.

I've had my SD/A-360 since new, connected to an MXR130 that I had even longer. It's served me well. Today, I hooked it via optical cable (for the first time), but to a hybrid Digital to Analog tube Converter made by Peachtree, and it sounds great.

Unfortunately, when I moved it around, I did something to the tray and it gets hung up the last 1/8 inch, and reopens. I hope it's an easy adjustment.

I even took the cover off and ran the tray in and out. I looked for an obstruction, and it looked like that trim piece, except that the try would stop just shy of it. Sometimes it closes; sometimes not. The guides/bumper on the rear are not an issue. I wonder if there is a rail that needs lube, or some slight adjustment. Anyone have a service manual? Perhaps there's one online. I'm better at mechanics than electronics.

I am beginning to suspect it might be the weight on top of it. The MX130 used to be on it without a problem, but now there's more. I'll start looking for a shelved case to sit on the desk, to take the weight off the SD/A-360.
