Re: excellent demo by bob if haven't seen before

that's cool, although the difference on my rig is not so dramatic like the video. and even then it works best on thin sounding early recorded cd's before they got the hang of it. bob took a cd a a lp and compared them. took the difference and based the time lens after it. as recordings got better, the lens was not as effective thus i would leave it off. so as i get into vinyl, i may understand more than now as to what bob was hearing with the lp's. and of course open another outlet of music.

Re: excellent demo by bob if haven't seen before

It's interesting in that the music used in the Digital Time Lens video (which is attributed to a CD) is the same as is used in the Sonic Hologram Generator by CARVER video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7MzM6N7lqs&feature=related), which the narrator states is from an LP. Either it's coincidence or something is fishy. In any event, the sound in both videos is dramatically changed by the use of the respective devices!

Not saying it does not "work" or anything, but isn't the bottom trace shown just a higher amplification trace of the upper trace??

It's true, it's not possible to discern (at least, to me) what the vertical scale on the 'oscilloscope' display is, but the peaks remain at the same amplitude, both before and after, yet the amplitude of the lower level signal is much fuller and 'filled out.'

If you look closely though, its not just a blown up copy, there is definitively a difference between the two.

I looked at the snapshots of the audio trace he provided in the video and while its hard to tell exactly what is occurring without the raw data it appears that the wave form is being stretched so that the amplitude excursion of the peaks and troughs are exaggerated this would account for the fuller sharper sound.

Correct; that is the Yellowjackets & the song is "Claire's Tune".

BTW...that's not Bob narrating the video.
