Re: Tfm55?

well I am currently running the 55 for my sub, & the 35 for my front speakers, do you think I should switch it and run the 55 to the front speakers and the 35 to the sub, to benefit from the 55's sound quality

Re: Tfm55?

It's always good to try different configurations, especially if you already have the amps. If you don't like the change its easy enough to switch back. I really like the sound of my 55, at all volumes. The midrange is really lively and pronounced on my klipsch speakers, voices seem nature and realistic, very enjoyable to me.

Re: Tfm55?

Is a TFM- 45 a magnetic field power amp? What are TFM-25's and 35's if they are not magnetic field as advertised?

"yeah, what he said, no. still very nice though.bob and his assistant spent alot of time back and forth overseas for the final production models. they are otherwise the same other than power supply. 3 rail design."

Yeah, what HE said (angelod307). The 35 is, however a great amp none the less. The 45 is a mag field amp...

There wasn't sufficient power required on the smaller amps (35 & below) to justify the additional cost of the mag field design, so they use traditional power supply configurations.

Re: Tfm55?

Being a former Tfm-25 owner and finding out now that it wasn't a true magnetic field power amp all of a sudden I feel cheated. :(

Re: Tfm55?

Well I hooked up the TFM 55 and have been playing with it for the last 3 hours. At first I was not sure that I had made the right move. The sound did not seem right. It took about an hour and and the sound began to warm up. I don't know if this is because the amp had not been used for a year or two. I found myself moving the speakers and sitting position around a bit and am very happy with the amp. The highs are clearer than with the 2 TFM24's, female voices seem more distinct. And once I found the sweet spot again there seemed to be more separation in the instruments. Little Feat Waiting For Columbus really came alive. I went thru some CD's and a number of records and will play with speaker position a bit more, but I have to thank you for the advice and am glad I bought the 55.

Re: Tfm55?

Step 2: get it re-furbed by Rita or Rolland....(I'm assuming this ~15 year old amp has not been already). Then it will REALLY blow your mind!

Re: Tfm55?

Just got mine back from Rita this morning, haven't had a chance to plug it yet though! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ I asked her about the differences between the 45 and 55 as they're obviously very different design. She said typically the 55 has a lot cleaner output which is probably why I describe it as more detailed. I guess the voltage rail is a lot lower on the 55 which is why it uses the 2 small high rail caps instead of the 2 very large ones in the 45 making it much more dependent on available wall AC.
