Going to look at a pair tomorrow. Three woofers have bad surrounds on one speaker but the the others are fine. We'll see what happens.

JJ,
If woofers are all same age, you can bet foam on others are ready to go IMHO.

Re: Carver Platinums
Yeah, I kind of figured that. It sounds like the guy just wants them out of his house and if he can get a little bit of pocket money he'll be happy. I'm really just nervous about the transport, don't want to screw up the ribbons. Is it easy to remove the ribbons? Would it make sense to remove them? Thanks.

Re: Carver Platinums
yes, take the ribbons out, wrap them in a cushy blanket. makes it much easier to move around.

If they are "ready to go" but haven't gone remember the "windshield repair" fix that Bob Carver & Robert R came up with.
In case you missed it....Get some windshield repair cement, a clear flexible sort of glue available at auto supply shops Then coat the surrounds gently.
Let dry overnight & repeat about 3 or 4 times. The cement itself will form a surround even if the foam later falls off.
Good luck.
Re: Carver Platinums
I'ts clear silicone, albeit thinner than the caulk type. VERY thin coats! Both sides would be best.
If you have one surround that's not in pieces, I GUARANTEE it will be with the first big bass note....

Re: Carver Platinums
What was left of any of the surrounds is wadded up in the back of my truck for the most part. Basically I bought these knowing all the woofers were going to be replaced. They're piano black and in pretty descent shape. Both ribbons work and I suspect that one may have been either repaired or replaced already. I thought the Platinums were bi-ampable through the stock crossovers? There is only a single input on these speakers. All in all not a bad score, a black Ct-7 pre with remote, sd/a 350 Cd player, a broken frankenstein amp (m-4.0 & m-1.5 mix) and a pair of rebuildable Plats for $350.

Re: Carver Platinums
good job for sure. order the replacement woofer from dynavox, wait till they come in, see if they fit proper, if not call back/email and they end up being 51 each delivered to your door. electronic 2 way and a eq is far superior though to the mess that is called a crossover. nice score just the same.
