Platinum woofers, new or recone?

When I asked about having mine repaired, I got this response:

I spoke with a guy that was supposed to have been involved in getting the originals made to spec. I dealt directly with him after refusing to take the speakers that did not fit, did not have the same mounting hole pattern, and only had two instead of 4 spades as was shown on their site.

He claimed they did offer rebuilds although it was slightly more $ than the new drivers.

well, the new ones are not built as well, lighter baskets and they cheaped out on the glue holding the manets to the baskets....
they will rebuild the old ones, if the spider and VC are not bad,
then all you need is the surrounds....
you can read about just refoaming speakers all day long on diffrent sites...
its not that big a deal, they know that as soon as a replacment surround comes out, there sales will fall to about zero, except for a blown VC...
this is why they wont sell them.
we will overcome this.
if one lived close they could do a bit of dumpster divin to see a box could be found with shipping info on it..........

well, i got mine and i would say made in china.oh yeah that what ada said, the next batch is coming so it is not an in house deal. as the next batch of woofer are in transit. so, dumpster skills along with some language skills to boot in china might be required here.

"FYI, you need to do this quickly as our rebuild engineer is taking vacation after mid-August through April next year."

Could be why they said they don't due rebuilds as "the guy" isn't there right now?

"By the way, the person who is going to rebuild your drivers is our engineer master who helped Bob Carver designed Amazing Loudspeakers in the 90s. Therefore, you should be comfortable to know it will be in good hands.
