Carver Home Audio (Stereo) Discussions and Questions
As for power conditioners, you have to watch out on what you buy. Make sure they recreate a true sine wave and not a stepped sine wave. I have an APC S15. It is a UPS power conditioner that is a true sine wave. You should be able to find a new between $700 and $800. One that they also sell is the APC H15. It is in the 300-400 but it is a stepped sine wave and is not good for audio equipment.
The best conditioner, if you can find them, are Tice. They went out of business in the late 80's but made great power conditioners.
Also I would not plug your amps into any power conditioner. Amps can draw more power than some power conditioners can put out.

Maintains usable 120V nominal output during brownouts as low as 87V and over-voltages as high as 140V
2,400 watts output power rating supports heavy 120V loads up to 20 amps
They get some bad reviews on other audio forums compared to some of the sine wave products but I've been very happy with it.
Furman's "gimic" is Linear Power Filtering. I believe Furman purchased Panamax or vice versa as their products are starting to look very much the same. They also sell a Power Factor version that has the ability to store energy (likely in capacitors) and make it available to Power Amps when demands are high; however the price goes up significantly for this feature.
I agree with others that Power Amps should be plugged directly into the wall especially if you are running the system hard.
