Balanced XLR cables for TGP to Sunfire amp?

Thought I would try hooking up my TGP1 to my Sunfire amp via Balanced cables.

I am getting a bit of hiss from my Klipsch Chorus II's and was wondering if switching to Balanced cables might help.

Anyway, I've never bought Balanced cables and don't know exactly what I need to connect my TGP1 to either my 300 x 2 or Signature. Three feet length should be enough.

Can anyone link me to exactly what I need? Thanks.

The Chorus IIs pick up just about anything in the signal chain, I hear hiss on certain CDs.

I can't imagine balanced connections affecting the hiss.

If anything adding XLR's in your situation will INCREASE the hiss! There is about an 8 decibel gain using them with the Sunfire hookup.

Ok................, so what's the supposed advantage to using XLR's?

Besides the increase in gain, they are better at rejecting and shielding against radio and electrical source interference. They are usually used in professional sound applications requiring cable runs of 10 or more feet.

Agree with Kingman. They are good to eliminate hum sceanarios in different situations. However, don't think they will address any hiss issues at all.

This is a constant level hiss regardless of source selection or volume chosen, regardless of if anythings playing or not.

I did find that turning off the Holographic Image on the TPG1 knocked the hiss down from noticeable to barely noticeable.

Surprised it had that much affect on hiss. I don't get much effect out of it anyway, so I'll leave the Holographic switch off.

Down side of having very sensitive speakers, they pick up absolutely everything, good or bad. For the most part mine are pretty well tamed but like I said above, I can hear things in different CDs like hiss that's not there on others etc. The upside is the ability to pick up the subtleties in each recording, breathing, finger snaps, chairs scooting on stage etc.

Could be the caps deteriorating in the Sunfire...

This hiss I'm hearing even with nothing playing, the TPG1 just being turned on.

Agreed about the Chrorus's though, if it's on the recording you'll hear it.

So the hiss is not there when just the amp is on, TGP turned off? If its the caps in the Sunfire amp it would be there regardless if the pre was on or off. Could be the plug in, shared plug ins, power strip or cables if that's the case.

From my listening seat which is 7 to 8 feet from the Choruses (with Holographic Image turned on), this hiss is only there with both the TGP1 and the Sunfire 300 x 2 turned on.

The hiss is exactly the same using my recently acquired 600 x 2 (the one without the Bob Carver sig that was at Rita's in late 2009).

With HI turned off, the hiss is almost not audible from my listening position.

It sounds to me like its the S.H. feature alone causing this, seems like there was a thread about this recently.
