Finally get to play with a TFM-75!!

Post by jjptkd » Fri Jul 20, 2012 11:57 am

I've wanted to play with one of these amps ever since I heard of their existence and now I finally landed one, should be here next week!! \:D/ \:D/ I've already established the fact that my speakers don't need even half that much power but I can't wait to touch it, feel it and caress it anyway. :D :D It should be interesting to compare it to my Sunfire 425x5 though and see if my opinion is that of the rest of the TFM line. It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a purchase, can't get here soon enough... 8) 8) 8)

Yep... :-" :-" :-" My plan is to take this right into Rita's for a go through and have Mr. Carver sign the top and face then play with it for a bit, make sure it gets broken in properly. :D :D :D

I like the TFM line and each amp seems to have its own sound but one thing they all seem to have in common is a "rolled off" high end, especially when compared point blank with the Sunfires. Not sure if this is a result of trying to mimic the "tube" sound? :-k

Could be. They do have warmth that makes you think tubes.

Wow.
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to a good analogue reproduction.

I certainly got a great deal for sure but by the time you add shipping ($125) plus service fees @ Rita's I'll be into this amp close to $1500. Then when (if) I decide to sell this beast it will cost me another $150 in Paypal and shipping fees. So, just to break even on this amp I'd have to get $1650. I have a suspicion though that with it being as nice as it is, having been just serviced and signed by the man, it might sell for a little more then that... who knows though, I may just keep this one. After all, if ever there were a "collectible" Carver amplifier, I'd have to say that this and the original Lightstar are neck n neck for the top spot. :D 8) 8)
