MXR-130 buzzing sound

Post by cring08 » Sun Jul 21, 2013 7:01 pm

My mxr130 is in the basement where i have the gym set up.

We bought a new treadmill, and when its on, the mxr has a loud vibration and buzz from the rear left corner.

Any ideas?
Chris

Treadmills in use are a heavy electrical load. Your steps can actually modulate the power such that you can sometimes see the footsteps in lights. Put on analog voltmeter on that circuit and you'd likely see it dragging the line down a shocking (pun intended) amount every step. They use switch mode supplies that impress a ton of trash on the power line too.

Your hearing an indication of this. I'd suggest for the health of the unit that you want to change something pronto.

It might be advisable to check the tightness of the screws on the outlet and any others in the circuit that daisy chain to the one used for the treadmill. And then the breaker at the panel should also be checked.

The noise in the transformer is indicating that the impedance there is not very low or it wouldn't be possible to impess that much noise on the line and then over into the amps transformer windings.

It's on a seperate outlet, but probably the same fuse.

I'll see if I can seperate them, and check everything you guys suggested.

Thanks!
Chris
