hr 875 power

Post by MONETAMAN » Tue Apr 07, 2015 9:46 am

new to this forum, i just purchased a carver hr 875 receiver
standby blinks as it should, however when the power button is pressed
it clicks for a long time, never powers on, sometimes it does but most
of the time it does not. seems to me it is the power supply ?
is it possible to get one, or is this another problem ? any help greatly appreciated

Welcome MONETAMAN. Sorry I (and seemingly everybody else) missed your post until now.

The HR-875 dates from the early 1990s, and at this age your problem is almost certain to be failing electrolytic capacitors, in this case in the power supply, as you suspect. The symptoms are almost infinite - won't turn on, won't stay on; sometimes it's even won't turn off. Entire groups of lights or switching functions may quit working, or maybe the tuner, as the various supply voltages go bad. Re-capping is the answer. Sometimes just one or two caps, if somebody can find the right one or two, will get it back to running just fine for quite some time. But ultimately you should replace every blasted one of them, starting with the entire power supply, if you want top performance and reliability.
