having heard a pt2400, lightstar and a tfm55 all back to back, with the same equip. song...
just different amps, the lightstar sounded the best, the pt2400 has very big balls ,but is a very neutral,flat sounding amp, the tfm55 at moderate volumes sounded good, but at higher volumes it sounded very strained and muddy, smeary....
these where drivin ALS'S 4ohm and lower.....

amen to that.....makes you believe in "gaudian angel" (I'd say "crap" but better not...he/she might go away... ). If not for luck (or that), I'd have either went to jail or be dead at some point before I turned 21). Maybe someone should start a thread: what was the stupidest AND most dangerous thing(s) you did (and hopefully got away with it!) before your 21st birthday? (after that, you just a damn criminal to do those things! ).

Somehow I don't think most would post true facts about there under 21 screw ups! it would be fun to see what some will admit to though

Personally, I think the PM amps are a little noisy/unrefined for home use. They were designed for brute strength at the expense of some quietness.

I think some amps that are made for sound reinforcement or live work (like Crown, Behringer, Peavy, Pyramid, Pyle, PSC, etc.) are made for just that, and not for high fidelity listening. I think Carver pro amps are somewhat different, but lack the warmth that the non-pro versions have due to very minor circuit variations. The pro amps tend to be very sterile sounding.

Mike, you have a good ear. I can tell by your observations. Well done.
