How does the Carver M-500 stack up against other amps, including the M-500T, the M-1.0t, the M-1.5t, and the TFM series? I have an oppurtunity to pick one up for cheap and was wondering if it is as recommended as the M-500t.

I have no idea as I only have the M400t, AV-505, Av-705, and 600-2.
Maybe someone will help after a few hundred more view this.

Re: Carver M-500
The m-500 and m-500t are the exact same except the "t" has a power switch.

Re: Carver M-500
You know that's not true. The M-500t has different sensitivity and a feedback loop not contained in the M-500. Also, power supplies are different.
It should sound like it isn't there!

Re: Carver M-500
I can't comment. Never heard the M-500. Heard every damn one of the others [except the TFM-6] but not the M-500 so basically, I can't help the lad. Even 7 years later.

Re: Carver M-500
I have had Dozens of M-500t's but never just the M-500 model but I have heard the Power supply's were not the same but again I have never seen or other to commit! Good one to ask Rita and post back here what she says as from face value the power button is all that's added and the t model has a thin hair more power so I am told

BillD, You will be forever with us! RIP until we meet again on the other side...
Re: Carver M-500
While Rita may explain the electronics and cosmetic changes, she doesn't ever listen to them. So, to answer the question of how they stack up is not really one for her either.....if you know what I mean. She's strictly about the electronics of Carver gear. She doesn't have the time to actually listen to them.

Re: Carver M-500
That's a shame. Every time I refurbish an amp, I listen before and after, and it is amazing what a difference it makes.

Re: Carver M-500
I've had numerous M-500s & M 500ts and I couldn't hear a difference between them but I never really tried to listen for differences if that makes any sense.

Going on the premise that some here HAVE to be right, some times stupid answers will draw out legitimate ones!

Re: Carver M-500
I have one, or should I say my dad has it. bought but never even heard it....
just a short test listen when I bought it ....
powers on, plays music soft to loud with no noise, I'll take it...paid about 225.00, it was part of a package deal.
how's that for OCCD.....
