Subwoofer Advice?

My dad is finally getting his home theater system together and is at the point of buying a sub... Problem is its in a room thats about 1100-1200 sq ft! So this thing is gonna have to be a freakin haus! I was thinkin maybe one of Sunfires True 12" subs but I didnt know if he might need to go with a 15" driver to fill that much space with bass. Let me hear all your guys input on what sub to go with. Dont really have a huge brand preferance.... Hes got Genesis mains and infinity surrounds so its not like it really has to match anything lol. Lookin forward to your input!

Also am leaning towards used stuff... Like to be in the 500 dollar area if possible.

This has the 1250 watt amp. I am thinking maybe 2 subs?? The person to ask is Rabbit the Sunfire expert. Hopefully others will ring in also. There are other options out there keep in mind beside Sunfire. Several here also like the Velodyne subwoofers. personally I think one sub for each channel (main R & L) is the way to go. Good luck

I picked up both of mine, an original and a MKII for $440 and $535. You just need to be able to wait and bid accordingly. They can be had for a very resonable price. Plus they kick ass!

Hey thuffman > are you running both subs in your set-up? Is your house still on it's foundation?

I don't have a room large enough to run both. One is on my 2 channel and one is on my HT.

For my house one running at a time rumbles the stove and moves paintings on the walls.

Brings up another question though... if we have to go with a dual subwoofer option which Im thinking we will then he will need to upgrade to a preamp with 2 sub outs correct? Hes currently got my old Carver CT 28v which just has one. Hes not crazy about it anyways since it doesnt sound anywhere near as good as his C-4000 lol.

Another thing... as for filling a room that size, will the driver size or amp size have the most effect on it? We tried my brothers little cerwin vega in there to see what it did... Its a 10" 200 watt sub and in a small room POUNDS. Doesnt sound particularly great but is loud. In that big room it almost wasnt noticeable!



I actually am watching that first sub that you posted up in my ebay lol. Had my eye on it for a while!

Epik & SVS make fantastic subs for the $$$.

Ill look into those... any models that are better then others?

It's pretty far outside your budget, but you might want to take a look at one of these anyway...
One of those things where after you hear them, the price won't matter to you much anymore !!!
Try to find a local shop that has one, go take a drive, and play for the day!
You WON'T be sorry !! They are worth saving your pennies a few more months for, I promise !
