What can you guys tell me about this receiver? Yamaha RX-Z1

Hey guys.. i walked in to a store today and noticed they had a Yamaha RX-Z1.. I don't know anything baout it, other than it was their flagship receiver in 03 and that it is a freaking monster of a receiver ( 61 lbs )

I have several receivers already and I'm not a theater person at all.

Are there any uses for me in this receiver? How about the sound quality? How about its musical reputation?

Anybody?

Thanks!

Not familiar with that particular receiver- but I will give my .02...
IMHO-
Yamaha has some awesome surround processing and some cool features (different hall effects, etc) I am using a newer version (7.1)for just the pre /pro and running pre out to my Sunfire amp for front channel (using Yam for surrounds and sub out to powered sub). FWIW -I like their pre / pro better than Denon's- but the Denon seems to output more power if using only the receiver to drive all speakers. If I were in the market- I would look for a Sunfire TG receiver.

Not sure if that helps any or not.

I went with Yamaha's RX series early-on. THe processing (preamp) was fine, but didn't like the amps. I have an RX-V992 sitting idle right now. Only 80 WPC (in all channels).

So should I invest 200 dollars in to it? Key factor here: no remote. And I have read that the remote controls some aspects of the amp that the amp itself cannot control without it. And not only that, but apparently, no other universal remote in the world can control this amp. Not sure how that is even possible, but that's what I'm reading.

The remote alone sells for 400 to 500 according to a few websites that I've read. I havnt tried ebay.

I just don't know. I already have a killer h/k reciever that is 7.1 that I use.

What to do.. what to do.. ???

for two hundred buck.... hell yes. you can get a Harmony remote if it is missing. That Yamaha was built to be a statement piece and is simply fantastick if you don't care about HDMI. If you decide to pass on it, let me know where I can find it.

That is almost like answering the OP's question with...."It is a Yamaha!" :D

I still have my HK-7000 and love it's smooth sound. Will never part with it as long as it continues to shine. Looks good too.

Re: What can you guys tell me about this receiver? Yamaha RX

It's no Sunfire, but has very solid processing capabilities.
I started with one of them and as someone else mentioned the amp section was 'wanting'.
Then I added several Carver amps using the pre-outs - soooo much better. \:D/
If you can land one for a couple hundred beans - go for it!
