Carver AV-705x

Thanks to those that can assist.

I just recently purchased this unit and ma awaiting its arrival. I bought it through ebay from what seems to be a reputable seller. I was in the market and this was available at a decent price compared to others I was looking at(marantz mm9000, adcom gfa-7000, acurus 5125, sunfire cinema grand, etc...). What I would like to know is if I should have this amplifier sent out to a repair shop and have them inspect it and/or install any sort of upgrade before using it to drive my speakers or if I can just hook them up as is and home they last another 10 years. They will be used to drive Polk RTi10s, Polk CSi40, Polk monitor 60. I am going to use my Yamaha rx-v863 as a Pre/Pro for the the time being till I can free up some funds for a decent Pre/Pro.

Any help would be much appreciate. Especially if anyone knows of any hifi stereo repair shops in Washington DC area.

I've purchased all my Carver gear from eBay, and most of my other stuff too. In my experience, it either works, or it doesn't. I've never had new equipment destroy any of my other functional equipment. I'd just plug 'er in and fire it up. Most likely it'll be fine, and if its not, it'll just won't work correctly or at all; I think your other gear is safe.
That's my take; others may have had different experiences...

AV-705's are good amps.

I would hook it up and use it before sending anywhere to be serviced. If it is working then let it go unless it seems week or starts to let the magic white smoke out.

I am expecting the amp to arrive sometime next week. I chose this amp over the marantz mm9000, Rotel 985 mkII, Rotel RMB-1075, Acurus 5125, Adcom GFA-7000. I hope a made a decent choice. I have heard the Rotels and they sounded great, I also heard the Carver Cube amp M200 I think but not sure and it sounded more like what I was looking for so. I needed a good 5 channel amp and the Carver is what I ended up with.

Any suggestions on a good Pre/Pro? I need it to have HDMI and 7.1 capability. So far only good choice I am coming up with is Rotel units.

Outlaw & Emotiva are highly regarded but not too exspensive...
