What to avoid?

I have a Carver home theater receiver (AVR-100, one of the originals) for 20+ years, but I'm looking for another Carver for another home theater set-up.

The HR800 series seems to be more than enough for my purposes. It seems to have more bells and whistles (and power) than I need, but that's Carver....... However, I've been out of the market for quite awhile. I am familar with the ups and downs of the Carver brand. I get the sense that I should avoid Carver receivers made from the early 90's to about 1999/2000, regardless of the model/series. But maybe that's too strong of a statement. It could be that a second-rate Carver (made in China) is still better than 99% of the home theater receivers on the market.

So, should I continue to focus on trying to get a pre-1992 model, or should I expand my search to any HR800 series receiver with a Carver label? Any advice?

SUNFIRE.....the newer,premium Carver AV offerings. That's what I'd get, if I could afford to!

Sunfire is the way to go without a doubt.

They are coming down in price on Ebay and if you gert seperates the amps will blow your mind.

The "tracking down converter" is to the "mag field coil" as the field coil was to conventional amps.

Thanks guys, but......

Back when I was single, buying a $1000+ receiver was fairly easy. However, with a wife and two kids, plus soccer camp, French horn lessons, new tires for the family van, etc, etc, that's not even close to being possible. I know that Sunfire is the best around, but my only real options are to focus on used Carver equipment on e-bay. Used Sunfire receivers are selling for $1000 at the low end, and they go up from there. I'm hoping to narrow my focus to within my price range ($300 +/-). I'm just not sure which piece of Carver equipment I should seriously consider.

You could "watch" this AVR and see what it'll go for.

It sure would be the bargain of the year but I don't see a BIN anywhere in the post. Where did you get that from?

This is still high for your budget, but maybe you'll find some $$$ in the couch to make up the diff.

If you're not in a rush, I'd watch eprey and get an idea how many $$ each is getting. Then decide what you want or what will fit the budget.
